WIDE RECEIVERS — CUT THEM LOOSE

Justin Gage (Tennessee Titans)

After scoring 13 fantasy football points in Week 1, Justin Gage has combined for just six fantasy points over the last four games. The wide-outs 1.5 point per game average since Week 2 isn’t exactly fantasy worthy and it’s time for his owners’ to end the marriage and let Gage head to the waiver wire. Over the past four games Titans quarterback Kerry Collins has completed 84 passes and Gage has been on the receiving end of just eight of them. He has been outplayed by veteran Nate Washington and rookie Kenny Britt and after five weeks it’s quite evident that Gage is the fifth option in a mediocre offense. You probably snagged him as a free agent after a solid Week 1 but now it’s time to cut Gage loose because he has little upside and is wasting a valuable roster spot.

Lee Evans (Buffalo Bills)

Guess how many times fantasy football owners have had Lee Evans ruin their Sunday? Well, if you answered five you are correct! Through five weeks everyone’s yearly sleeper pick has been asleep. Evans has a whopping 12 receptions and 21 fantasy points. He has scored three or less points in three games this year and even his nine points in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers doesn’t qualify as a solid performance because Evans had one catch and it went for a touchdown. The Buffalo Bills offense has scored just one touchdown over the last three games and are averaging a measly 6.6 points per game during that span.

With Bills quarterback Trent Edwards relying on completing passes to the flats or on short routes it’s causing Evans to become an afterthought in a bad offense. That’s not what you want out of a wide receiver on your fantasy football roster and because of this you can start hoarding your waiver wire for other options. When looking for a replacement find an option that has been consistently getting 4-6 receptions (someone like Austin Collie) per game because at least you know you are rostering a decent yardage play.

Isaac Bruce (San Francisco 49ers)

There comes a time when you lose your ability to produce at a high level and it looks like this is happening to Sir Isaac Bruce. The aging veteran has been an afterthought in a mediocre 49ers passing attack and his statistics have suffered because of this. Bruce has had trouble getting open this season and it showed against the Atlanta Falcons as he failed to record a receptions for the first time as a 49er. Despite the struggles Bruce is still owned in close to 30 percent of leagues and this shouldn’t be the case moving forward. Bruce has just 15 fantasy points in five games and outside of a seven point performance in the season opener he hasn’t recorded more than three points in a single game. There was a time when the 16 year veteran won many fantasy football leagues for his owners but that was then and this is now. If you haven’t already dump Bruce at all costs.

TIGHT ENDS — CUT THEM LOOSE

There aren’t any tight ends that are worth cutting based of their Week 5 results. If you are wasting a roster spot on someone like Kevin Boss or Bo Scaife you are probably better off getting rid of them and just rolling with one tight end. Even if your tight end is faced with an upcoming bye you should be able to pluck a filler off the waiver wire when the time comes. In the meantime, snag a running back or wide receiver that has some upside in a solid offense over a back-up tight end that is marginal at best.

Keep Them Cut - Anthony Fasano (Miami Dolphins), Randy McMichael (St. Louis Rams), Alge Crumpler (Tennessee Titans)

Im not doing to bad, im 4-1, tied for first, ahead because of points. These last two weeks where a bit hectic, last week I won 87-85, and this week 101-95, if it weren’t for the challenged play on Edwards monday night it would be a tie. I am very stacked on running backs, I have Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson, Mendenhall, Kevin Smith, and Pierre Thomas,I have a pretty good line up
Qb-Peyton Manning
WR-Dwayne Bowe, Jerricho Cotchery, Mario Manningham, Brian Celek, Wes Welker.

Should I give up a RB for maybe a Solid WR,because during my matchups, thats were I have a tendency of getting out matched.

THIS IS BAD ADVICE. DO NOT DROP JULIUS JONES.

He’s the clear #1 in Seattle. The only reason other RBs touched the ball this week is because it was a blow out.  The Seahawks are a pass first team, but they won’t be killing teams all season and will need to run the ball on the goal line and to balance the offense.

JJ should be owned in every 12 team league, and he can be started most weeks. He’s a top 20 RB in fantasy points scored this year.

If you have him, do yourself a favor and don’t listen to this “expert”.  If you drop him, someone else will grab him as soon as he’s off waivers.

Hello Guru,
I have Turner Bradshaw Mendenhall Coffee McGahee and F. Jackson. I need to determine a solid consistent starter.
A) should I drop Jackson, he seems done for season with a terrible O line and lynch back in action
B) Besides Turner, . . . in the coming weeks I don’t have a consistent guy I can count on.  McGahee was great, but goose egged last week. Bradshaw is good but a back up, Mendenhall will be replaced by Willie (and if not will have significant amount of carries taken away), and Coffee will be donezo once Gore returns next week.
Thanks,
Lang
