16. Benjamin Watson (New England Patriots) @ Denver
Benjamin Watson has 12 catches for 174 yards with two touchdowns on the season, but half of his catches and the two touchdowns came in Week 1. His 28 fantasy points have him tied for 10th among tight ends, but he should not be considered anything more then a bye week or injury replacement at this point. The Patriots have a tough match-up this week against a Denver Broncos team that has not allowed a passing touchdown this season.
Point Projection: 6 points
17. Kevin Boss (New York Giants) vs. Oakland **CHECK INJURY STATUS**
Kevin Boss had four catches for 41 yards this past Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, while playing with an ankle sprain. He now has 10 receptions for 143 yards on the season, but has yet to find the end zone. Consider Boss a No. 2 fantasy tight end at this point, especially while he is dealing with the ankle injury.
Point Projection: 4 points
18. Bo Scaife (Tennessee Titans) vs. Indianapolis
After missing two games with a knee injury suffered Week 1, Bo Scaife returned to action against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week and had two catches for 25 yards. A healthy Scaife is a welcome addition for a struggling Tennessee Titans team. He is a solid TE2 as he has a good rapport with Titans quarterback Kerry Collins who has targeted him 12 times in two games this season.
Point Projection: 4 points
19. Dante Rosario (Carolina Panthers) vs. Washington
After being held without a catch Week 1, Dante Rosario has six catches for 89 yards with two touchdowns over his next two games. He should still be considered a fantasy reserve at this point, but he is worth keeping an eye on. This is Rosario’s third season in the NFL and he appears to be well on his way to having a career year.
Point Projection: 4 points
20. Zach Miller (Oakland Raiders) @ New York Giants **CHECK INJURY STATUS**
Before we talk about Miller’s fantasy potential we want to inform you that he looks to be a GTD (game-time decision) with a concussion injury. We have said it before and we will say it again, Zach Miller is talented enough to be considered a No. 1 fantasy tight end, if he played for another team. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, his talent is being wasted as a member of the Oakland Raiders. He may have a big game from time-to-time, but as long as he has JaMarcus Russell passing to him he should remain on your bench.
Point Projection: 4 points
21. Brandon Pettigrew (Detroit Lions) vs. Pittsburgh
The rookie is starting to show signs as to why the Lions spent a first round draft pick on him in this year’s NFL draft. He had 4 catches for 64 yards Week 4 against the Chicago Bears and has 10 receptions for 131 yards over his last three games. Though we feel Pettigrew should not be your starting fantasy tight end yet, he is improving each week and will be a fixture at the tight end position for years to come. Also if you are in a Week 5 pinch Pettigrew might not be a bad option as the Steelers have had trouble defending the TE position this year.
Point Projection: 4 points
22. Daniel Graham (Denver Broncos) vs. New England
Daniel Graham has nine catches for 112 yards on the season for the surprisingly undefeated Denver Broncos. He has seemingly passed Tony Scheffler as the Broncos No. 1 receiving tight end, but he does not produce enough to be a worth anything more then a backup on your fantasy roster.
Point Projection: 3 points
23. Robert Royal (Cleveland Browns) @ Buffalo
Robert Royal started the season with four receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown Week 1, but has followed that up with four receptions for 33 yards over the next three games. He is sharing time with Steve Heiden at tight end for a Brown’s team that is struggling to find an offensive identity. Consider Royal a low-end fantasy tight end.
Point Projection: 3 points
24. Randy McMichael (St. Louis Rams) vs. Minnesota
Veteran tight end Randy McMichael has 10 catches for 99 yards without a touchdown in four games this season. The Rams have been struggling offensively this season, leaving McMichael with very little fantasy value. Keep him reserved until further notice.
Point Projection: 3 points
25. Tony Scheffler (Denver Broncos) vs. New England
Tony Scheffler had three receptions for 26 yards Week 4 versus the Dallas Cowboys. He now has six receptions for 71 yards on the season and is well off his 2008 totals when he had 40 receptions for 645 yards. Scheffler is a talented pass catching tight end, but he should remain on your bench until he can string together a few nice games.
Point Projection: 2 points
26. Chris Baker (New England Patriots) @ Denver
Chris Baker had 10 fantasy points Week 3, but did not record a catch in the Patriots Week 4 match-up with the Baltimore Ravens. He is the No. 2 tight end for New England and he has very little fantasy football value.
Point Projection: 2 points
27. Alge Crumpler (Tennessee Titans) vs. Indianapolis
With Bo Scaife returning to the Titans lineup Alge Crumpler’s fantasy value takes a serious hit. With Scaife back in the lineup, Crumpler will likely be used primarily as a blocking tight end and he isn’t even worth owning on fantasy rosters.
Point Projection: 2 points
28. Daniel Fells (St. Louis Rams) vs. Minnesota
After having a career week against the Green Bay Packers Week 3, Daniel Fells returned to reality with one catch for 17 yards Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers. Despite his two touchdowns on the season, Fells should be a waiver wire casualty.
Point Projection: 2 points
29. Martellus Bennett (Dallas Cowboys) @ Kansas City
Martellus Bennett had one reception for 13 yards Week 4 against the Denver Broncos. He has only managed one reception in each of the Cowboys first four games this season. Until he proves otherwise Bennett should remain on waivers this season.
Point Projection: 1 point
30. Anthony Fasano (Miami Dolphins) vs. New York Jets
Anthony Fasano has been one of the truly disappointing fantasy tight ends this season. He has just four receptions on the season to go with two fumbles. He is not worth a roster spot at this point in the season.
Point Projection: 1 point
WEEK 5 BYE WEEK TIGHT ENDS
Antonio Gates (San Diego Chargers) - Antonio Gates finally had the game fantasy owners have been waiting all season for with nine receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. When the Chargers return from their bye week, Gates remains a must-start fantasy tight end each and every week.
Greg Olsen (Chicago Bears) - With just 10 receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns this season, Greg Olsen has been a disappointment as he was expected to be a top-five fantasy football tight end. He is still worth starting when the match-up is right, but he should not be considered a must-start at this point.
Jeremy Shockey (New Orleans Saints) - After battling injuries over the past couple of seasons, Jeremy Shockey has been healthy this season and is becoming a big part of the Saints high-powered offense. He has 18 receptions for 162 yards with two touchdowns and is once again becoming a worthy starting fantasy football tight end.
Jermichael Finley (Green Bay Packers) - Jermichael Finley had six receptions for 128 yards Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings, which included a 62-yard touchdown in the first quarter. He had been impressive in the preseason and it finally transpired into the regular season. Finley might not be a weekly starter on your fantasy roster, but he is worth starting when the match-up is right.
