Fred Taylor (New England Patriots)

Though New England running back Fred Taylor is already owned in the majority of 10-team leagues, he is still available in some. After rushing for 105 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries in a win over the Falcons, he likely won’t stay a free agent too long. Taylor is a great talent and on a team like the Patriots could enjoy some good games even though he’s nearing the end of his career. The problem with the Patriots is that they rarely stick to just one running back, so if you do decide to pick up Taylor, be careful about deciding to start him.

WIDE RECEIVERS - PICK THEM UP

Andre Caldwell (Cincinnati Bengals)

Heading into the season it was assumed that Chris Henry, and not Andre Caldwell, would be the Cincinnati Bengals’ third receiver this season. Through three games, however, it has been Caldwell that stepped up as he’s caught 14 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. Caldwell has been targeted often by quarterback Carson Palmer, including during clutch moments like in the week three win over the Steelers. In fact, it was Caldwell who caught the game-winning touchdown. For now, Caldwell should only be a target in deeper leagues, but he has some good potential and is definitely a guy to keep your eye on.

Mike Wallace (Pittsburgh Steelers)

The Steelers took wide receiver Limas Sweed in the first round of the draft last year and it appeared he would fit right in as the No. 3 receiver for Pittsburgh. But, Sweed has struggled, and the few times he has been thrown the ball he’s had a bad case of the dropsies. In the meantime, rookie Mike Wallace has stepped up when called upon and has pretty much solidified the third receiver spot for Pittsburgh. He caught five passes combined in the first two games, but had seven receptions for 102 yards in a loss to the Bengals. For now, he should only be considered in deeper leagues unless you feel like stashing him on your bench.

TIGHT ENDS - PICK THEM UP

Vernon Davis (San Francisco 49ers)

San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis had just 72 yards and no touchdowns combined in the first two weeks, but he came up big in week three with seven receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Considering the lack of talent at wide receiver in San Francisco, if the 49ers want to continue their winning ways it would be wise for quarterback Shaun Hill to continue to get the ball to Davis. Considering that Davis has never shown he can be a consistent option, he should only be considered in deeper leagues where you can keep him on the bench until he proves otherwise.

KICKERS - PICK THEM UP

Matt Prater (Denver Broncos)

Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater hit two field goals in each of the first two weeks and also connected on three extra points in week two. In week three, he was 3-for-3 on field goals and hit two extra points. He’s never scored less than nine points in a week this season and that’s the kind of consistency we like here at Bruno Boys. At the very least, being a kicker behind the Denver offense should be interesting.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS - PICK THEM UP

San Francisco 49ers D/ST

A lot of defenses that were considered to be strong this season have been anything but, such as the Tennessee Titans. The San Francisco defense isn’t particular strong in any one area, but the 49ers are a solid fantasy option as the defense has averaged 10 points a week in the first three weeks. In the loss to the Vikings in week three, a game in which they gave up a season-high 27 points, the 49ers had their best fantasy performance. With the San Francisco defense, there’s also the added bonus that the 49ers get to play against a horrible St. Louis Rams offense twice on the year.
