16. Shayne Graham (Cincinnati Bengals) @ Cleveland
Impressive as the Bengals were beating the former Super Bowl champions, Graham wasn’t. He only put 1 FG through the uprights and kicked 3 extra points. Graham will continue to let down owners from time to time until the Bengals can consistently use him. Cincinnati plays the lowly Cleveland Browns in Week 4 so if there was ever a time to play Graham, it would be now.
Point Projection: 8 points
17. Jeff Reed (Pittsburgh Steelers) vs. San Diego
Reed made up for some missed FGs last week with a solid performance against the Cincinnati Bengals kicking 2 of 3 FGs and 2 extra points. He did miss 1 FG though but it was from 52. As the Steelers’ offense continues to play at a mediocre level and are unable to finish their drives, Reed will be depended on to do lots of the scoring. He should be a solid play against the San Diego Chargers in Week 4.
Point Projection: 7 points
18. Joe Nedney (San Francisco 49ers) vs. St. Louis
The 49ers continue to surprise and Nedney is as steady as ever. Though the numbers do not reflect it properly, Nedney is kicking the ball well. Last Sunday against the Vikings he hit a 37 yard FG and 3 extra points. There are three words that make Nedney one of Week 4’s most intriguing kickers, St. Louis Rams. He’s a perfect bye-week replacement and should reap the benefits of a great match up if the 49ers running game can withstand losing Frank Gore.
Point Projection: 7 points
19. Jason Hanson (Detroit Lions) @ Chicago
Even if Hanson didn’t put up amazing numbers in Week 3, everyone could breathe a sigh of relief, the Lions won a game. Hanson actually did not do all too bad, kicking 2 FGs and 1 extra point. Hanson has been accurate so if the Lions can start to put together a solid offense, his value could rise later in the season. For now he’s no more than a fill in option against the Chicago Bears in Week 4.
Point Projection: 7 points
20. Shaun Suisham (Washington Redskins) vs. Tampa Bay
There is no other way to say it. Shaun Suisham plays on a bad offense. The Redskins have struggled mightily to score and Suisham’s numbers are suffering for it. He only scored 2 extra points in Week 3 against the Lions. Despite Suisham’s accuracy, unless Washington can get their act together he isn’t going to be an every week kind of kicker. That being said, the Redskins face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4 who are also pretty bad, so if you have the guts, Suisham could actually be a good play based on the match up.
Point Projection: 6 points
21. Olindo Mare (Seattle Seahawks) @ Indianapolis
Mare may have suffered the wrath of Seahawks coach Jim Mora by missing 2 important FGs in last weeks loss to the Chicago Bears but fantasy owners were still fairly pleased, thanks to the 4 FGs he did hit. Of course it would have been even more impressive had he made the other two. Mare will remain the Seahawks kicker despite the coach’s tirade at least for now. There are better options right now other than Mare when they face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4. If you have one, use it.
Point Projection: 6 points
22. Dan Carpenter (Miami Dolphins) vs. Buffalo
Dan Carpenter kicked 2 FGs and an extra point in Week 3 against the San Diego Chargers. Based on the Dolphins poor offense, he’s not really been a great asset to owners though he has been fairly solid when given the chance. The bad news, Pennington is out for the season. If new QB Chad Henne can’t get the offense going then Carpenter may spend the rest of the year at the bottom of this list. For now, he is only worth using in good match ups. The Dolphins play the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 which is not bad, but if you have better options, you may want to see what Miami’s offense looks like first.
Point Projection: 6 points
23. Sebastian Janikowski (Oakland Raiders) @ Houston
Sebastian Janikowski only scored one FG and no extra points against the Denver Broncos in Week 3. Of course it’s not his fault, it’s the only attempt he was given. Like bad genes, Janikowski’s performance continues to suffer because of factors that are out of his control. If Oakland’s offense continues to sputter, he’s not really worth playing. That goes for Week 4 when the Raiders face the Houston Texans.
Point Projection: 6 points
24. Josh Scobee (Jacksonville Jaguars) vs. Tennessee
At least Scobee didn’t miss a FG. In fact he nailed a 52 yarder in Week 3 against the Texans. The only problem is that was his only FG but he did notch 4 extra points. Scobee may have gotten some of his accuracy issues under control but he can’t do anything about the Jaguars lacking offense. For now, he’s not really a good play but if Jacksonville can step it up later on, he may bounce back. Keep him reserved in Week 4 against the Tennessee Titans.
Point Projection: 6 points
25. Ryan Succop (Kansas City Chiefs) vs. New York Giants
It would have been a disappointing day for Ryan Succop if it wasn’t to be expected. He kicked only 2 extra points and did not attempt a FG at all against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3. The Chiefs do not have much of an offense and Succop has no real value unless you have absolutely no other options. Kansas City plays the New York Giants in Week 4 which by all means should be a massacre. Keep Succop out of your lineup if you can.
Point Projection: 5 points
26. Billy Cundiff (Cleveland Browns) vs. Cincinnati **CHECK INJURY STATUS**
Regular kicker Phil Dawson was injured Sunday so Billy Cundiff got the nod. Of course, kicking for the Browns right now, it really doesn’t matter that much. Cundiff scored the only points for Cleveland hitting a 29 yard FG. Watch to see who is kicking for the Browns in Week 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Not that you should play either of these kickers as long as the Browns continue to plummet offensively. Avoid them if you can. Point Projection: 5 points
27. Mike Nugent (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) @ Washington
So far Mike Nugent has missed some FGs and hasn’t attempted any in the last two games. What else is there to say? The Buccaneers are one of the worst offenses right now and Nugent may be the worst kicking option. Do not use him at all in Week 4 against the Washington Redskins or for the rest of the season for that matter unless things turn around.
Point Projection: 4 points
28. Josh Brown (St. Louis Rams) @ San Francisco
Josh Brown went 1 for 2 in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers and had 2 extra points. His lone FG was from 53 yards but overall he only scored his owners seven points. Brown is usually a very solid kicker but right now, his bad team seems to be rubbing off on him. Sit him against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4.
Point Projection: 4 points
WEEK 4 BYE WEEK KICKERS
David Akers (Philadelphia Eagles) - What’s not to like about Akers? Regardless of who the quarterback is in Philadelphia the Eagles score points and Akers get’s plenty of kicking chances. He is just about as close to an every week kicker as one can have in fantasy football. Start him with confidence week in and week out.
Jason Elam (Atlanta Falcons) - It hasn’t been a great start to the season for the veteran Jason Elam. He has missed multiple field goals and an extra point through the season’s first three games. With a bad hamstring being a cause for concern his fantasy football owners should monitor his production. If he continues to struggle after the bye you might want to cut bait with Elam.
Neil Rackers (Arizona Cardinals) - With the Cardinals using the bye week to fine tune some things on the offensive side of the football you can expect big things out of Neil Rackers moving forward. Plus his big leg is an added bonus in leagues that reward points for long FGs
John Kasay (Carolina Panthers) - It’s kind of tough to score fantasy points when your offense can’t even get the football across the 50 yard line. That was the case for the Panthers on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys and because of that Kasay was able to score just one fantasy point.
