QUARTERBACKS – START ‘EM

Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers) @ Miami

Big Ben is having his most productive season as a passer in terms of yards, as he’s gone over 4,000 yards for the first time in his career – he hadn’t even gone over 3,600 before. He’ s also thrown at least 20 touchdowns for the second time in his career, and is in prime position to pad his stats against a Miami Dolphins team that has had problems controlling the passing games of their opposition this season. Look for the Steelers to draw up a game-plan that attacks Miami’s vulnerable defensive backs and features a heavy dosage of Santonio Holmes, Hines Ward and Heath Miller. With your season on the line their aren’t many better options than Roethlisberger.

Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) vs. New England

Schaub is the best passer in the league that will undoubtedly play all four quarters this week. With so many others questionable to make it even to the second half, you can be confident that Schaub, who has thrown for at least 280 yards in six of his last seven games, will be in there no matter what, and likely against the New England Patriots back-ups.Look for Schaub to once again get his play-making wide receiver Andre Johnson involved and put together his eight straight double-digit fantasy football performance.

Jay Cutler (Chicago Bears) @ Detroit

We’ve seen the evil Jay Cutler often this season – you know, the one costing his fantasy owners points every time he throws the ball to the wrong team. But the good Cutler showed up last week against the Minnesota Vikings, and he threw for more than 270 yards and four touchdowns. This week, the good Cutler should show up again as he faces a Detroit Lions team that is dead last in the NFL in both pass defense and passing scores allowed.

POTENTIAL QB SLEEPER OF THE WEEK

David Garrard (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ Cleveland

As bad as the Cleveland Browns are against the run, they’re also just as horrid against the pass, ranking 29th in the NFL. With such a plethora of top passers unlikely to play the entire game, fantasy football owners may do well to take a look at Garrard, who has tossed five touchdowns over his last four games, and run for another. That may not seem like a lot, but this is a quarterback who has only 13 passing scores on the season.

RUNNING BACKS – START ‘EM

Jerome Harrison (Cleveland Browns) vs. Jacksonville

If you’re not a believer in Harrison right now, you should be. He’s run for 434 yards and four touchdowns over his past two games, and done so on a whopping 73 carries. That’s 65 fantasy football points (standard scoring leagues) over a two game span. Regardless of what on paper looks like a mediocre matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Harrison should pick up yards no matter what if he gets such lofty carry totals. And considering that Derek Anderson is the team’s quarterback, he will continue to see a heavy workload.

Ray Rice (Baltimore Ravens) @ Oakland

There isn’t a better pass-catching running back in the NFL than Rice, and he’s pretty good at just carrying the rock as well. Those are very good traits to have against the Oakland Raiders, who have allowed more rushing yards than all but three other teams, but also the most rushing scores (tied) in the NFL this season. Only three running backs enter Week 17 with more fantasy football points than Rice and after he’s done running through Oakland it should stay that way (Rice trails Maurice Jones-Drew who is third in RB points by 27 entering Week 17).

Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ Cleveland

Jones-Drew can do it all, and this week won’t be any different. That’s usually the case when running backs go up against the Cleveland Browns, who rank 28th in the NFL in run defense. MJD has only one game with at least 100 rushing yards in his last six, so he’s certainly due. And even if he doesn’t get there, he’s always a threat to do damage by catching the ball.
