WIDE RECEIVERS – SIT ‘EM

Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis Colts) @ Buffalo

Like many of his teammates, this comes down to what will be dwindling playing time for the Colts’ veterans, including Wayne. He may get less than one half of football to play, and it’s not like he has a fantastic match-up in the first place; Buffalo is No. 3 in the NFL in pass defense and allows the third fewest fantasy points to the wide receiver position. While Wayne is always a threat to put up big fantasy points on any drive, we just don’t see it happening in Week 17.

Roy Williams (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Philadelphia

Williams has been as frustratingly inconsistent as any player in fantasy football. He’ll go from having a huge game one week to doing literally nothing the next week. He was supposed to be the man for Dallas at the receiver position, but was quickly overtaken by Miles Austin. He did have five catches for 75 yards the last time Philly and Dallas met, but how can you trust him to come anywhere close to that again? After all, he’s only hauled in one catch in each of his last two games.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Seattle Seahawks) vs. Tennessee

Houshmandzadeh has been an enormous disappointment all season long. He didn’t sign with the Vikings in the off-season because he didn’t like their quarterback situation, which must make Minnesota fans very happy. Even with this good match-up, Houshmandzadeh isn’t likely to give fantasy owners one great show to end the year with. He’s currently riding a streak of six straight games with seven or less fantasy points, a streak that will continue in Week 17.

TIGHT END – SIT ‘EM

Dallas Clark (Indianapolis Colts) @ Buffalo

The issue with Clark is his playing time, or perceived lack thereof. The Colts controversially pulled their starters last week, and they won’t hesitate to do so once again this week in Buffalo. Clark may be able to put up some decent numbers in just a half or so of football, but if your fantasy championship is on the line, that’s a gamble not worth taking.

Todd Heap (Baltimore Ravens) @ Oakland

Almost 60 percent of Todd Heap’s receptions the last two weeks have gone for touchdowns, but that’s a ratio that simply will not keep, especially against the Raiders, who have been difficult on opposing tight ends for the entire year. Just two NFL teams have given up fewer touchdowns to players at that position as the Raiders have allowed only 2 TDs to the position all year long. Even more disconcerting for Heap’s owners is that no defense has allowed fewer catches to tight ends than Oakland at 45.

Anthony Fasano (Miami Dolphins) vs. Pittsburgh

Chad Henne has thrown the ball a total of 130 times the past three weeks, which is an average of just over 43 throws per game. All you need to know about Fasano is this – he’s caught just five of those balls for 44 yards in those games. That means Fasano has latched onto about four percent of Henne’s throws, and that simply won’t cut it, even with the Steelers allowing double digits to the tight end position in each of their last two games.

KICKERS – SIT ‘EM

Stephen Gostkowski (New England Patriots) @ Houston

While the Patriots may indeed roll with their starters for the majority of their contest with the Houston Texans on Sunday, that’s no guarantee that Gostkowski will rack up the fantasy points. The Texans have made life on opposing kickers difficult, and that should be enough for you to sit Gostkowski as Houston has allowed the third-fewest field goals (tied) in the league.

DEFENSES – SIT ‘EM

New York Giants @ Minnesota

Though the Giants are 10th in the NFL in total defense and eighth in the league against the pass, this is not a match-up fantasy owners should look to. Minnesota scored all 30 of their points in the second half last week of their overtime loss to the Bears, and Adrian Peterson is due for a 100-yard rushing game after not hitting that mark in his last six contests. Add to all that, the debacle of a game the Giants’ put up in week 17, allowing 41 points to the Panthers, and you’d be wise to play it safe this Sunday and look elsewhere for your defensive play.
