16. Kevin Boss (New York Giants) vs. Carolina
Boss was second on the team with 57 receiving yards for the Giants in their win over the Washington Redskins on Monday night, a game in which he also caught three passes. Boss had had at least 55 receiving yards in four of his last seven games, though he does have a tough match-up this week with the Carolina Panthers, so keep your expectations in check somewhat.
Point Projection: 5 points
17. David Thomas (New Orleans Saints) vs. Tampa Bay
With Jeremy Shockey out last week, Thomas was as productive as he’s been all season, leading the Saints with eight receptions while accumulating 77 receiving yards. If Shockey is out once again, Thomas will again shoulder the bulk of snaps at tight end, and his match-up is a solid one against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown against the Bucs in Week 11.
Point Projection: 5 points
18. Todd Heap (Baltimore Ravens) @ Pittsburgh
Heap caught two touchdowns last week against the Chicago Bears, marking his first scores since Week 2. Overall he had five receptions for 56 yards in the contest, but he faces a much more stringent challenge this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. True, Jermichael Finley had a huge day against them last week, but Heap has not been consistent this season, and he had only one catch for six yards against them back in Week 12.
Point Projection: 5 points
19. Marcedes Lewis (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ New England
Lewis had four receptions for 53 yards in his contest last week against the undefeated Indianapolis Colts. It was the fifth time in his last six games that he’s had 40 or more receiving yards, and his match-up this week will likely keep him near that threshold once again. The New England Patriots have allowed the fifth-fewest receiving yards to opposing tight ends in the league.
Point Projection: 4 points
20. Dante Rosario (Carolina Panthers) @ NY Giants
Rosario caught only one pass for 11 yards last week in Carolina’s victory over the Minnesota Vikings; it was the third time in his last six games that he accumulated exactly 11 receiving yards. That total should spike this week against the New York Giants, however. They’ve given up the second-most receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns (tied) to opposing tight ends in the NFL.
Point Projection: 4 points
21. Jeremy Shockey (New Orleans Saints) vs. Tampa Bay **CHECK INJURY STATUS**
Shockey did not play last week in New Orleans’ first loss of the season, and his status for this week was still unknown as of this writing. If he does play, his match-up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is solid, but keep in mind that he had just two receptions for 17 yards the last time these two teams met.
Point Projection: 4 points
22. Dustin Keller (New York Jets) @ Indianapolis
Keller was on the other end of three Mark Sanchez passes, and he gained 33 yards on those receptions. This came after two weeks where he combined for two catches and eight yards. Don’t look for a whole lot out of him this week, either. The Indianapolis Colts have allowed the second-fewest receiving yards to opposing tight ends in the league.
Point Projection: 4 points
23. Tony Scheffler (Denver Broncos) @ Philadelphia
Scheffler amassed 48 receiving yards last week against the Oakland Raiders, which was his third-highest total of the season. He’s too inconsistent to be trusted, but take note of the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles have given up more receptions and receiving yards to opposing tight ends than any other team in the league.
Point Projection: 3 points
24. J.P. Foschi (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. Kansas City
Foschi made his presence felt last week with seven catches for 82 yards in Cincy’s loss to the San Diego Chargers. Both of those numbers were easily season-highs for him, and that means in inclusion in our rankings this week if it is any indicator of how he may be used against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Point Projection: 3 points
25. Zach Miller (Oakland Raiders) @ Cleveland **CHECK INJURY STATUS**
Miller sat last week with a concussion, and his status for this week was not yet known at the time of this writing. However, if he does suit up, his match-up with the Cleveland Browns is superb – they’ve allowed the third-most receiving yards in the league to opposing tight ends. Still, the question remains does Oakland have a quarterback that can get Miller the football?
Point Projection: 3 points
26. Shawn Nelson (Buffalo Bills) @ Atlanta
Nelson caught four of the five passes thrown his way last week, but managed to rack up only 17 yards as Buffalo fell to the New England Patriots. However, he faces the Atlanta Falcons this week, a team that has been exploited via the pass all season. Atlanta has allowed the fifth-most receiving yards in the league to opposing tight ends, and the sixth-most receptions.
Point Projection: 3 points
27. Randy McMichael (St. Louis Rams) @ Arizona
McMichael caught one pass for 20 yards in St. Louis’ loss to the Houston Texans last week. He should see more looks this week, however, as the Rams’ No. 2 tight end, Daniel Fells, is out for the season with an injury. That doesn’t mean you should run and slot McMichael in your TE spot on your fantasy football team, it just means he’ll see more snaps than usual, though that won’t necessarily amount to much.
Point Projection: 3 points
28. Leonard Pope (Kansas City Chiefs) @ Cincinnati
Pope is one of four different Chiefs who got exactly five targets last week, though he did the least with them, catching five passes for 23 yards. He’ll make a play here and there, but is not someone you want in your lineup with the fantasy football championship on the line.
Point Projection: 2 points
29. Ben Patrick (Arizona Cardinals) vs. St. Louis
Patrick caught only two passes for 32 yards last week against the Detroit Lions, and the yardage total was a season-high. He has another solid match-up this week with the St. Louis Rams, the team he had previously set a season-high against back in Week 11 when he had 27 yards.
Point Projection: 2 points
30. Evan Moore (Cleveland Browns) vs. Oakland
Moore managed just one reception for seven yards last week against the Kansas City Chiefs as Cleveland continued to show it has almost no passing game. His match-up this week against the Oakland Raiders is a very difficult one, as no team in the league has allowed opposing tight ends to catch fewer passes, and just two have given up fewer touchdowns to opposing players at that position.
