Jamaal Charles (Kansas City Chiefs)
As good as Jamaal Charles has been it amazes us that he is still available in over 20 percent of both Yahoo! and ESPN standard leagues. Without Larry Johnson around Kansas City Chiefs Charles has been free to run and not only has he done well, he’s actually beginning to emerge as one the better running backs in the league, at least from a fantasy football perspective. For starters he is consistent. He’s scored a touchdown in each of his last three games and four of his last five. He’s averaging 5.2 yards per carry and he’s also a threat in the passing game as he’s hauled in 34 receptions on the season. There’s no reason why this guy shouldn’t be on your fantasy football team unless you’re stocked at the running back position, and even then you should probably find a way to roster Charles..
Jason Snelling (Atlanta Falcons)
Similar to the Ryan-Redman situation, the chance of Michael Turner returning from injury to play drops considerably as the Falcons’ playoffs chances continue to die. Turner, who’s been out with an ankle injury, was listed as questionable this week and was a game-time decision. But considering Turner didn’t practice the Thursday before the game the decision not to play him was likely made well before game time. In Turner’s absence Jason Snelling rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and caught four passes for 65 yards. Snelling is not going to rush for a ton of yards or have a high average yards per carry, but he is good near the goal line and the Falcons do like to target him in the red zone. If Turner continues to miss time and the Falcons’ continue to use Snelling in a similar role it makes him a good Flex play in normal leagues or a solid start in deeper leagues.
WIDE RECEIVERS - PICK THEM UP
Devin Aromashodu (Chicago Bears)
Chicago Bears receiver Devin Hester did not play last week in a loss to the Green Bay Packers because of a calf injury, and in his place stepped Devin Aromashodu. Aromashodu had caught just two passes all season going into the game but he stepped up as he had eight receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown. Considering how inconsistent the rest of the receiving corps has been we would expect Aromashodu to once again involved in the offense next week if Hester does not return. Should Hester play next week, Aromashodu will likely take his seat back on the bench so monitor the situation closely.
Greg Camarillo (Miami Dolphins)
Many people expected Miami Dolphins receiver Greg Camarillo to step up this season with an expanded role in the offense but the injury to quarterback Chad Pennington, as well as the team’s emphasis on the running game, pretty much negated that. However in recent weeks the Dolphins have been trusting Henne more and more with the ball in his hands and that’s been a boon to Camarillo’s fantasy football value. Last week in a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Camarillo had his best game of season as he caught seven passes for 110 yards. The Dolphins passing game hasn’t been the most consistent in the league so for now consider Camarillo at best a third-receiver option or a guy to look at in deeper leagues.
KICKERS - PICK THEM UP
Garrett Hartley (New Orleans Saints)
New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley began the season on a four-game suspension after testing positive for a banned substance, and though he was eligible to play in Week 5 he didn’t resume his regular kicking duties until Week 13 when the Saints won in overtime over the Washington Redskins. In the past two weeks Hartley’s hit five extra points as well as connected on six of seven field goals attempts. What makes Hartley a good option in any league is that he’s playing behind the Saints’ offense, where the only danger is kicking too many extra points.
