16. Anthony Fasano (Miami Dolphins) @ Tennessee
Fasano’s total catches and yards last week equaled Bluto’s grade-point average in the movie Animal House: zero-point-zero. But Tennessee has had problems covering opposing tight ends at times this season, and only nine other teams have given up more receiving yards to players at that position than they have.
Point Projection: 5 points
17. Kevin Boss (New York Giants) @ Washington
Boss had seven receptions for 70 yards with one touchdown last week against the Eagles, a team he beat up on twice this season. This week, he faces the Redskins, who he amassed 62 yards against on three catches back in Week 1. Still, Washington is a difficult match-up for most tight ends. They’ve allowed the tenth-fewest receiving yards to opposing tight ends, and the third-fewest touchdowns (tied).
Point Projection: 5 points
18. Todd Heap (Baltimore Ravens) vs. Chicago
Heap picked up 38 yards on two receptions last week against the Lions, a match-up that was ripe for him to take advantage of, but the game got out of hand so quickly, Baltimore had little reason to throw the ball. This week he takes on the Bears, who were taken advantage of by Jermichael Finley last week, and who have allowed the fifth-most touchdowns in the league (tied) to opposing tight ends.
Point Projection: 4 points
19. John Carlson (Seattle Seahawks) vs. Tampa Bay
He lives, apparently. Carlson caught his fourth touchdown pass of the season last week and also had three catches for 24 yards, which was more catches than he had accumulated in any of his previous four games. Tampa has had trouble controlling opposing tight ends in some games this season, so while by no means is he a player you can trust, he’s at least shown signs of life.
Point Projection: 4 points
20. Zach Miller (Oakland Raiders) @ Denver **CHECK INJURY STATUS**
Miller led the Raiders with 12 targets and seven receptions and also compiled 46 yards, but there was lots of bad news to go with it. First, JaMarcus Russell came in for an injured Bruce Gradkowski, and second, Miller suffered a concussion, and his status for this week is not yet known.
Point Projection: 4 points
21. David Thomas (New Orleans Saints) vs. Dallas
Thomas caught just two passes for nine yards last week, as his production has waned recently. He is behind Jeremy Shockey among Saints tight ends, but we think this week will be a back-and-forth shootout, so Thomas just may have a bit of value.
Point Projection: 3 points
22. Marcedes Lewis (Jacksonville Jaguars) vs. Indianapolis
Lewis was second on the team with five targets last week, though he caught just two passes for 30 yards. He has a very tough match-up this week against the Colts, who have allowed fewer receiving yards to opposing tight ends than any other team in the NFL. Lewis had three catches for 23 yards against them In Week 1.
Point Projection: 3 points
23. Dante Rosario (Carolina Panthers) vs. Minnesota
Rosario only gained 26 yards last week against the Patriots on three catches, so he’s no sure thing, but he is the type that can exploit a good match-up. And, he has that this week against the Vikings, who have allowed more receptions to opposing tight ends than all but two other teams, and more yards than all but five other teams.
Point Projection: 3 points
24. Ben Watson (New England Patriots) @ Buffalo
Watson caught a touchdown pass last week for the first time since Week 7, and he also gained 37 yards on three receptions. His best game of the season came in Week 1 against the Bills, when he caught six passes for 77 yards and two scores, so though he can be streaky, he’s worth at least a glance in deep leagues.
Point Projection: 3 points
25. Randy McMichael (St. Louis Rams) vs. Houston
McMichael caught the only touchdown that the Rams scored in their 47-7 beat down at the hands of the Titans. He doesn’t catch a whole lot of passes or pick up many yards, but he’s a steady target on a miserable offensive team.
Point Projection: 3 points
26. Evan Moore (Cleveland Browns) @ Kansas City
Moore was targeted a team-high six times last week in Cleveland’s upset win over the Steelers, though he caught only two passes for 34 yards, down from the six receptions for 80 yards he had the previous week. Still, it’s clear that Moore will be a part of this offense, and the Chiefs are a solid match-up for him.
Point Projection: 3 points
27. Leonard Pope (Kansas City Chiefs) vs. Cleveland
Pope caught four passes for 45 yards against Buffalo last week, and though he’s not much of a weekly threat, you do have to respect his match-up with the Browns this week. Only four NFL teams have allowed more receiving yards to opposing tight ends than Cleveland.
Point Projection: 2 points
28. Donald Lee (Green Bay Packers) @ Pittsburgh
Lee caught only two passes for 16 yards last week as Jermichael Finley is easily the No. 1 tight end for the Packers. Lee is still involved to a certain degree, but he’s not going to put up big numbers, especially this week against a Steelers team that is tough on tight ends.
Point Projection: 2 points
29. Ben Patrick (Arizona Cardinals) @ Detroit
Like most of his teammates, Patrick did diddly last Monday against the 49ers, catching zero passes. However, he faces the Lions this week, a match-up too good to completely ignore – Detroit has allowed more touchdowns to opposing tight ends than any other team in the NFL.
Point Projection: 2 points
30. Daniel Graham (Denver Broncos) vs. Oakland
Graham has an occasional decent game, but last week against Indy, he had just one catch for six yards, and really isn’t much of a threat to anyone. He also has a tough match-up this week against Oakland, who has allowed the fewest receptions in the league to opposing tight ends.
