17. Stephen Gostkowski (New England Patriots) @ Buffalo
Weather is always a factor when you travel to Buffalo in December but despite it projected to be cold the wind is supposed to be calm at Orchard Park. With that being said, the reason why Gostkowski grades out so low has to do with the Patriots struggles on offense of late. The Patriots have scored 11 touchdowns over their last four games but they have given Gostkowski just six field goal attempts, and until he starts kicking more three pointers consider the fourth year veteran a mediocre fantasy football play.
Point Projection: 8 points
18. Mason Crosby (Green Bay Packers) @ Pittsburgh
For the third straight year, Crosby has been one of the highest scoring fantasy kickers in the business. Through 13 games, Crosby has 104 fantasy football points and has the eight most points at the kicker position. Though Crosby has posted such great numbers he still has missed eight field goals on the season and with the Heinz Field being the toughest place to kick in the NFL you might want to limit your expectations on Crosby. Plus, the weather isn’t expected to be all that ideal in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Point Projection: 7 points
19. Billy Cundiff (Baltimore Ravens) vs. Chicago
Cunfiff has converted on 9-of-11 field goal chances since taking over in Baltimore and he should be able to combine a few field goals with 2-3 extra points against the Cihcago Bears in Week 15. Don’t expect him to boot six extra points like he did last week against the Detroit Lions but the Ravens should hav no trouble moving the football against a reeling Chicago defense.
Point Projection: 7 points
20. Graham Gano (Washington Redskins) vs. New York Giants
After watching Gano drill two 40+ yards field goal attempts in Week 14 the Redskins fans didn’t know what to do with themselves. After all, they’d grown accustomed to Shaun Suisham missing clutch field goals but a new body in Washington could lead to big things for the improving offense. The New York Giants have allowed 10 FG attempts and 13 extra points over the last four games and our feeling is that the Redskins have enough offense to present Gano with some kicking chances.
Point Projection: 7 points
21. Phil Dawson (Cleveland Browns) @ Kansas City
It’s a miracle, Phil Dawson is not ranked dead last in our Week 15 kicker rankings. The reason for his increase in ranking is due to the fact that Cleveland has a nice match-up against a Kansas City Chiefs defense that has allowed a league high 32 field goal attempts through 13 games. The Browns might not light up the scoreboard on Sunday but they should be able to move the football and give Dawson a few extra kicking chances. Nice match-up and all but it’s still risky to start the Browns’ kicker with your fantasy football season on the line.
Point Projection: 7 points
22. Josh Scobee (Jacksonville Jaguars) vs. Indianapolis
You know things aren’t exactly going your way as a kicker when a four-of-four streak is considered a roll. Scobee, though, has been accurate of late, and the Jags’ kicker should be able to match his week 1 performance against the Colts in which he punched in 6 fantasy points.
Point Projection: 6 points
23. Matt Bryant (Atlanta Falcons) @ New York Jets
After being held to just a lone extra point in his debut with the Atlanta Falcons, Bryant was able to knock down three field goals in a Week 14 loss to the New Orleans Saints. With both Matt Ryan and Michael Turner expected to miss this weeks game against the New York Jets it’s tough to project anything more than a field goal or two from Bryant.
Point Projection: 6 points
24. Jeff Reed (Pittsburgh Steelers) vs. Green Bay
This is not the week to start Reed. Not only is Heinz Field a tough place to kick but the weather in Pittsburgh could be a factor and the Green Bay Packers are No.1 in the NFL at limiting field goal opportunities. Through 13 games, the Packers have allowed just 13 field goal attempts (9 made) and though some of Green Bay’s success could be luck it’s still an eye-popping statistic. Plus, the veteran kicker hasn’t been all that productive of late, having scored just 25 fantasy points since Week 10.
Point Projection: 6 points
25. Robbie Gould (Chicago Bears) @ Baltimore
With the Chicago struggling to move the football, Gould has attempted a whopping two field goals and five extra points over Bears’ last three games. Things wont be any easier this week against a Baltimore Ravens defense that has been stubborn to opposing kickers. The Ravens have allowed just two kickers to score 10 or more fantasy football points and only once over the past seven games has a field goal kicker converted on multiple kicks. This doesn’t look to be the week that Gould breaks his slump.
Point Projection: 5 points
26. Joe Nedney (San Francisco 49ers) @ Philadelphia
There used to be a time when Nedney was a reliable kicking option but this is no longer the case. Nedney has attempted just 19 field goals through 13 games and since the 49ers Week 6 bye he has converted just 8-of-10 FGs. With the forecast in Philadelphia showing snow, wind and temperatures in the 20s, it’s safe to say that a warm weather kicker like Nedney will struggle to get it going in Week 15.
Point Projection: 5 points
27. John Kasay (Carolina Panthers) vs. Minnesota
We will give Kasay props because he has converted on 9-of-10 field goal attempts over his last four games but don’t expect him to reach his eight points per game average that he’s achieved during that span. The Minnesota Vikings allow just six points per game to the kicker position and if Carolina has any chance of winning this game it’s because they are finding the end zone.
Point Projection: 5 points
28. Dan Carpenter (Miami Dolphins) @ Tennessee
During the middle of the season Carpenter caught fire and scored 39 fantasy football points over a four game stretch but the second year kicker has been slumping since. Carpenter has just five field goal attempts over his last four games and with the Miami Dolphins offense not exactly lighting up the scoreboard of late it has led to his struggles. Don’t expect things to turn around this week against a Tennessee Titans team that has surrendered just four FG attempts over their last three games.
Point Projection: 5 points
29. Sebastian Janikowski (Oakland Raiders) @ Denver
For just the second time all season Janikowski missed a field goal in Week 14 and technically this miss doesn’t count. On the last play before the end of the first half the Raiders opted to bring Janikowski out for a 66 yard field goal. The kick was no good but that’s just a minor blunder on what has been a remarkable 2009 season. Janikowski has scored eight or more fantasy points in four of his last six games but a match-up on the road against a tough Denver Broncos defense should be more than enough reasoning to stay far away from “Sea-Bass.’
Point Projection: 4 points
30. Connor Barth (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) @ Seattle
Good match-up or not at this stage of the season you shouldn’t be starting a kicker from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On the season, Tampa Bay has used three kickers and their latest, Connor Barth, hasn’t been that good. He’s missed three of his last five field goals and with the Buccaneers not scoring a touchdown since Week 12 Barth’s kicking chances have been limited.
Point Projection: 4 points
31. Jason Hanson (Detroit Lions) vs. Arizona
The aging kicker has just five fantasy football points over his last three games and has missed three of his last five field goal attempts. There was a time when Hanson could be used as a starter on a weekly basis but with the Lions needing to light up the scoreboard to compete with the Arizona Cardinals you can expect Detroit to be settling for three pointers.
Point Projection: 3 points
32. Josh Brown (St. Louis Rams) vs. Houston
In what should be considered “breaking news” someone not named Phil Dawson is occupying the last spot in our Week 15 kicker rankings. With no quarterback, no wide receivers and a running back that has a bad back and possibly swine flu the Rams will lucky to score a point in this game. With that being said, Brown has no business being in your lineup.
