Larry Johnson (Cincinnati Bengals)
The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t sign Larry Johnson just to sit on the bench and that showed last week in their win over the Cleveland Browns. Johnson rushed 22 times for 107 yards, and he got most of the playing time in the second half while Bernard Scott was on the bench with some kind of minor injury. Cedric Benson was expected to play against the Browns but didn’t even dress. Though Benson is expected to return this week, you should still expect Johnson to get 10-15 carries, making him worth a look in deeper leagues.
WIDE RECEIVERS - PICK THEM UP
Danny Amendola (St. Louis Rams)
The Rams have been hurting at the wide receiver position all year but it appears one player is about to step up. Danny Amendola, a rookie out of Texas Tech, led St. Louis last week in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks with seven catches for 55 yards. Kyle Boller has taken over at quarterback for the injured Marc Bulger, and he already appears to be establishing a rapport with Amendola. Still because the Rams offense is so bad and it’s led by Boller, and that Amendola is a rookie, he should only be considered in deeper leagues or ones that feature PPR scoring.
Chris Chambers (Kansas City Chiefs)
The Kansas City Chiefs have seen a boost to their offense with the addition of wide receiver Chris Chambers. Chambers has caught three touchdowns since signing with the Chiefs and last week in a loss to the San Diego Chargers he had seven receptions for 70 yards and a score. He has had no trouble blending into the offense even though a lot of receivers who change teams in midseason do. For this Chambers would make for a good third receiver in normal-sized leagues.
TIGHT ENDS - PICK THEM UP
Anthony Fasano (Miami Dolphins)
Back from a hip injury that caused him to miss the previous two weeks, Miami Dolphins tight end Anthony Fasano played well last week in a loss to the Buffalo Bills as he had five catches for 74 yards. Fasano, when he plays, does not catch a lot of passes but is the team’s top red zone target. Chad Henne is in his first year as a starter at quarterback and could use a good safety blanket so expect some solid production from Fasano from here on out. His true value comes in TD-only leagues but if you are in a pinch at the tight end position and looking for a one week plug-n-play Fasano could be a viable option down the stretch.
KICKERS - PICK THEM UP
Matt Prater (Denver Broncos)
Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater is a decent fantasy football option, but as the team struggled in the middle of the season his numbers suffered. In Week 12, Kyle Orton returned as the starting quarterback and that boosted the offense, which helped Prater go 4-for-4 on field goals and hit two extra points in a win over the New York Giants last week. As long as the Broncos offense continues to move like it’s capable of then Prater is a good pickup in any league. Plus, you can’t overlook the fact that he has two match-ups against the Kansas City Chiefs and one against the Oakland Raiders on his schedule.
