16. Tony Scheffler (Denver Broncos) @ Kansas City
Scheffler caught four passes for 53 yards last week in his team’s win over the Giants on Thanksgiving. This week, expect more of the same against the Chiefs. Only five teams have allowed tight ends to gain more receiving yards than Kansas City, who has given up 648 yards to the position, has.
Point Projection: 5 points
17. Jermichael Finley (Green Bay Packers) vs. Baltimore
Finley has obviously become a key cog in the Packers’ offense this season, and on Thanksgiving, he tied Greg Jennings for the second-most targets with six, though he wound up catching just three of those passes for 25 yards. The Ravens are very tough on tight ends, having allowed the fewest receptions in the league to opposing players at that position, but if Finley gets the looks, he’ll pick up some yards.
Point Projection: 4 points
18. Ben Patrick (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Minnesota
Patrick had only one catch for 23 yards last week in Arizona’s last-second loss to the Titans, and he’s typically not a priority in the team’s offense, but his match-up with Minnesota warrants a top-20 ranking for him this week. Only one team has allowed more touchdowns to opposing tight ends than the Vikings have, and only one team has allowed opposing tight ends to catch more passes.
Point Projection: 4 points
19. Heath Miller (Pittsburgh Steelers) vs. Oakland
Miller was meek in his last contest, with only one catch for two yards, and he has a very difficult match-up in which to make it up to his fantasy owners. Only two teams have allowed fewer receptions than the Raiders have to opposing tight ends, and Oakland is one of just two teams to not have allowed a touchdown pass to a tight end.
Point Projection: 4 points
20. Marcedes Lewis (Jacksonville Jaguars) vs. Houston
Lewis has never really lived up to his status as a first-round pick, but he has had some flashes of solid play. Over the last three weeks, he’s accumulated at least 40 yards in each contest, and though he’s prone to disappear for stretches, he can still be of some use when he’s involved in the offense. However, keep in mind that he had just one catch for 18 yards in his prior meeting with the Texans this season.
Point Projection: 4 points
21. Fred Davis (Washington Redskins) vs. New Orleans
Davis had a solid game in his last outing, with four catches for 43 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles. But Philly is one of the softest teams in the league for opposing tight ends to play against; the Saints, Davis’ opponent this week, are not. In fact, they are one of just two teams in the league that has not allowed an opposing tight end to score a touchdown.
Point Projection: 4 points
22. David Thomas (New Orleans Saints) @ Washington
Thomas has seemingly surpassed Jeremy Shockey, having outgained him in each of his last three games. But this week he has a difficult match-up with Washington, so don’t expect much out of either player. Only four teams have allowed fewer catches and touchdowns to opposing tight ends than the Redskins.
Point Projection: 4 points
23. Jeremy Shockey (New Orleans) @ Washington
Shockey had only one reception for 15 yards last week in the Saints’ win over the Patriots, and over the last two weeks he has only three catches for 32 yards. The Redskins have the top-ranked pass defense in football, so this match-up does not bode well for Shockey.
Point Projection: 3 points
24. Ben Watson (New England Patriots) @ Miami
Watson has had some solid games here and there this season, but he hasn’t been consistent enough to rely on. That’s unfortunate, because his match-up this week against the Dolphins is excellent – Miami has allowed more receiving yards to opposing tight ends (791) than any other team.
Point Projection: 3 points
25. Bo Scaife (Tennessee Titans) @ Indianapolis
Scaife had a whopping 10 targets last week, and he responded by tying a season-high with five receptions and setting a season-high with 68 receiving yards. But those type of numbers are unlikely to be generated this week against Indy. Only one team has allowed opposing tight ends to gain fewer receiving yards than the Colts, and they’ve seen a tight end catch a touchdown pass only once all year.
Point Projection: 3 points
26. Martellus Bennett (Dallas Cowboys) @ New York Giants
Bennett has been up-and-down all season and was shut out of the stat sheet for the third time this season last Thanksgiving, but he had shown signs of being more involved in the offense before that, with multiple receptions in three of his past five games. He has a very good match-up this week, but anything more than 30 yards isn’t likely.
Point Projection: 3 points
27. Casey Fitzsimmons (Detroit Lions) @ Cincinnati
With Brandon Pettigrew out for the season, Fitzsimmons becomes Detroit’s pass-catching option at tight end. He was second on the team with seven targets in the Lions’ last game, on Thanksgiving, and he led the team with five receptions, though was third in receiving yards with just 38 yards. While he’ll have more opportunities to put up fantasy points, he will be limited by the Bengals in this contest.
Point Projection: 3 points
28. Dante Rosario (Carolina Panthers) vs. Tampa Bay
Rosario led the Panthers with seven targets, four receptions and 62 yards last week in Carolina’s loss to the Jets. With Jake Delhomme out this week, the team’s passing game figures to be something of an afterthought – even though that’s what it should be when Delhomme is playing – so despite Rosario accumulating over 100 yards combined in his last two games, expectations should be held in check this week.
Point Projection: 2 points
29. Donald Lee (Green Bay Packers) vs. Baltimore
Lee had more receptions than teammate Jermichael Finley last week, with four, but had three fewer receiving yards, 22. With the Ravens being so stingy on tight ends, it’s not a good week to be the No. 2 on your team at that position.
Point Projection: 2 points
30. Daniel Fells (St. Louis Rams) @ Chicago
Fells isn’t a big part of the St. Louis offense – actually, only Steven Jackson is a big part of the St. Louis offense – but he has a certain chemistry with Kyle Boller, who threw Fells two touchdowns in one game earlier this season, and last week, the two also hooked up for a 25-yard reception.
