17. Vince Young (Tennessee Titans) vs. Arizona
Since moving to Vince Young at quarterback the Titans have employed a simplistic approach on offense. They are going to run the ball early and often, as well get the ball to running back Chris Johnson in space. Young is simply asked to hit a few playaction passes and not turn the ball over. Where his value comes in is that Young tends to find the end zone once a game whether it’s on a pass or a run.
Point Projection: 12 Points
18. Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) vs. Pittsburgh
Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco looked so good at the beginning of the season and considering he was working with one of the league’s top offensive coordinators in Cam Cameron, a lot of people expected that to continue. For a multitude of reasons, it has not happened. Three consecutive games with less than 10 fantasy football points is a bad trend for Flacco, but since Pittsburgh will be without safety Troy Polamalu, we think Flacco will break that streak this week - but not by much.
Point Projection: 12 Points
19. Alex Smith (San Francisco 49ers) vs. Jacksonville
Against the Packers last week San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Alex Smith had another big game as he threw for 227 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. As teams are focusing on tight end Vernon Davis that has allowed wide receiver Michael Crabtree to find more room, and Smith is finding Crabtree with regularity. The problem is that Smith has never shown the ability to be consistent, so there’s no way you should expect three touchdowns again this week.
Point Projection: 11 Points
20. Matt Cassel (Kansas City Chiefs) @ San Diego
Just when you think Kansas City quarterback Matt Cassel is due for a bad game, he surprises you with a good one, as he did last week in the overtime win over the Steelers. The problem is that this week the Chiefs must travel to San Diego to face a red-hot Chargers team. That doesn’t do much to inspire confidence in Cassel this week.
Point Projection: 11 Points
21. Jay Cutler (Chicago Bears) @ Minnesota
For a player that leads the league in interceptions thrown, it certainly wasn’t surprising last week when Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler attempted to lead the Bears on a last-minute drive for the win, but instead threw a pick in the loss to the Eagles. The good news was that it was his only interception of the game. The bad news is that the Bears offense still is a mess and Cutler’s throws are off, even when his receivers are wide open. Until he proves otherwise, there are better options out there.
Point Projection: 11 Points
22. Brady Quinn (Cleveland Browns) @ Cincinnati
How do we interpret Quinn’s performance last week in the loss to the Lions? On one hand, he did go over 300 yards and had four touchdowns with no interceptions. On the other hand, it came against the Lions. Certainly he’s not going to repeat that performance this week against the Bengals, but the developing rapport between Quinn and receiver Mohamed Massaquoi will be interesting to watch.
Point Projection: 10 Points
23. Chad Henne (Miami Dolphins) @ Buffalo
The nice thing about Miami Dolphins’ quarterback is that you pretty much know what he’s going to do. The bad thing about that is that it isn’t much, at least from a fantasy football perspective. Every week he’s going to throw for about 175 yards with a touchdown, sometimes adding an interception with that. And thus, you can expect a similar performance this week.
Point Projection: 10 Points
24. David Garrard (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ San Francisco
Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback David Garrard has started to play well down the stretch with three consecutive double-digit fantasy football performances. However, this week he’ll travel to San Francisco, which is allowing an average of just 19 points per game at home this season.
Point Projection: 10 Points
25. Bruce Gradkowski (Oakland Raiders) @ Dallas
It took 11 weeks of the regular season for the Raiders to get a double-digit fantasy football performance from a quarterback. It also took the Raiders starting Bruce Gradkowski at quarterback instead of JaMarcus Russell. Given Gradkowski led Oakland to a win, he will likely continue to start, though Oakland has done weirder things before. Either way, given how bad the rest of the Oakland offense is, you shouldn’t consider Gradkowski for your team for the time being.
Point Projection: 10 Points
26. Josh Freeman (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) @ Atlanta
It didn’t take long for the rookie to emerge out of Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman. He quickly went from a 20-plus point performance to throwing for just 126 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions last week. Freeman’s got some good tools, but he’s on a bad team and will be starting just his fourth game this week at Atlanta, so you should not consider him an option.
Point Projection: 9 Points
27. Jake Delhomme (Carolina Panthers) @ New York Jets
Consecutive double-digit fantasy football performances by Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme probably has some people hoping he’s back to his old form. And given he’s only had one interception in the past four games, it’s tough to dispute that he is playing better. However, the New York Jets have a good secondary, and we’re not the type to trust Delhomme after a few good games.
Point Projection: 8 Points
28. Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) vs. Carolina
We figured that Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez would have a rough day against the Patriots, but what happened was worse than expected. In the loss, Sanchez threw for just 136 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions. Sanchez is so wildly inconsistent from week to week that it’s difficult to get a good grasp on what he might be capable of, but considering the Panthers are fifth in passing yards allowed, week 12 is not a week to gamble on him.
Point Projection: 8 Points
29. Daunte Culpepper (Detroit Lions) vs. Green Bay
At first it appeared the injury to starter Matthew Stafford was pretty serious, but it was revealed to be a sprained AC joint in his non-throwing shoulder. That’s a similar injury Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford suffered at the beginning of the college season, but less serious. Either way, Daunte Culpepper will get the start this week against a hot Packers team. Given it’s a short week, Culpepper likely won’t have much of an impact.
Point Projection: 8 Points
30. Jason Campbell (Washington Redskins) @ Philadelphia
Washington quarterback Jason Campbell had one of his best games of the season when he played the Eagles in week seven as he had 284 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Don’t expect Campbell to repeat that performance this week, especially with his top two running backs out with injuries.
Point Projection: 7 Points
31. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buffalo Bills) vs. Miami
It appears Buffalo quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick played well enough last week to earn a second consecutive start. But, don’t forget how poorly he played last season when he had extended playing time. This guy should be nowhere near your lineup, let alone your team.
Point Projection: 6 Points
32. Kyle Boller (St. Louis Rams) vs. Seattle
St. Louis starter Marc Bulger has a fracture in his leg and will be out 3-6 weeks, meaning backup Kyle Boller will start this week against the Seahawks. That should be all the motivation you need to avoid any Rams quarterback when it comes to your fantasy football team.
