17. Matt Prater (Denver Broncos) vs. San Diego
After getting off to a hot start and converting on 12 field goals over the Denver Broncos first six games Prater has cooled down of late. Since, Prater has made just two field goals and four extra points as the Broncos have lost three in a row while failing to find any consistency on offense. If the Broncos are going to keep pace with the San Diego Chargers they will have to score points but that hasn’t been the case of late and with Chris Simms under center things aren’t likely to change in Week 11.
Point Projection: 7 points
18. Jason Hanson (Detroit Lions) vs. Cleveland
With the Detroit Lions offense starting to find it’s rhythm it has led to five field goal chance and three extra points from Hanson over the Lions’ last two games. Unfortunately, Hanson has missed two of those attempts and is converting at just 62.5 percent over his last five games. Still, a match-up against a Cleveland Browns defense that allows over 7 fantasy points per game to opposing kickers is enough to use Hanson in a league that requires you start two kickers.
Point Projection: 7 points
19. Jay Feely (New York Jets) @ New England
Feely has been one of the best kickers in the NFL to date, as the veteran has made 16 of 18 field goal attempts and all 19 extra point attempts. Feely has had at least seven fantasy points in each of his last five games and has knocked down 10 FGs during that span. In a Week 2 victory over the New England Patriots, Feely nailed three 3-pointers but with the Patriots’ offense finding it’s stride, the Jets’ will need touchdowns, not field goals, to keep up.
Point Projection: 6 points
20. Olindo Mare (Seattle Seahawks) @ Minnesota
Since missing two field goals in a Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears and getting insulted by head coach Jim Mora, Mare has been perfect. Over the Seattle Seahawks last six games Mare has made all 11 field goal attempts to go along with 12 extra points. His Week 11 opponent, the Minnesota Vikings, are ranked in the middle of the pack against opposing kickers and you can expect a mediocre performance out of Mare.
Point Projection: 6 points
21. Shaun Suisham (Washington Redskins) @ Dallas
Iin terms of accuracy Suisham is enjoying his best season in the NFL. The only problem is the Washington Redskins don’t give him enough opportunity to rely on in fantasy football. Through nine games Suisham has made all 12 field goal attempts but he has had only three games this year in which he has attempted more than one FG. Things won’t get any easier for Suisham this week against a Dallas Cowboys team that has help opponents to just 12 made field goals on the season.
Point Projection: 6 points
22. Connor Barth (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) @ New Orleans
We are still trying to find a fantasy football owner that had Barth in their Week 10 lineup. If you did, congratulations! Barth knocked down not one, not two, but three 50+ yard field goals and his 17 fantasy points led all kickers last week. Don’t expect the same production out of the second year pro this week because if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have any chance of winning this football game it won’t have to do with the leg of Barth.
Point Projection: 6 points
23. Billy Cundiff (Baltimore Ravens) vs. Indianapolis
With Steven Hauschka missing easy kicking chances the Baltimore Ravens decided to cut him loose and they turned to veteran Billy Cundiff to take over the teams kicking duties. Cundiff replaced injured kicker Phil Dawson in Cleveland earlier this season and had some success. He was a perfect 6 of 6 in field goal attempts but let it be known that he never attempted a FG of 40 yards or more. In fact, Cundiff is just 21 of 38 beyond 40 yards in his career and the last time he even attempted a 40+ yarder was in 2006. In other words, if your league gives bonus points for long FGs Cundiff is not your best option.
Point Projection: 5 points
24. Josh Scobee (Jacksonville Jaguars) vs. Buffalo
The big legged Jacksonville Jaguars kicker has been average at best in 2009. He has made just 10 of 16 field goal attempts and has 19 points on the season. His 62.5 percent conversion rate is dead last in the NFL and if Scobee doesn’t shape up soon he might be out of a job. With heavy rain in the forecast for Sunday’s showdown with the Buffalo Bills you are better off staying away from Scobee because even in good weather he has struggled with his accuracy.
Point Projection: 5 points
25. Rian Lindell (Buffalo Bills) @ Jacksonville
Like Scobee, Rian Lindell has been mediocre at best in 2009. However, accuracy hasn’t been his problem, instead it’s been the lack of offensive efficiency in Buffalo that has limited Lindell’s opportunity. With the Bills scoring just 15.6 points per game Lindell hasn’t had the chance to find any consistency and this has led to the veteran kicker scoring just 17 fantasy football points over the last three games. This is not what you want out of your kicker at this stage of the season and because of this we recommend you sit Lindell at all costs.
Point Projection: 5 points
26. Josh Brown (St. Louis Rams) vs. Arizona
Big leg, bad team. That about sums up the 2009 scouting report on Brown. Through nine games he has just 11 field goal attempts (eight conversions) and a measly 10 extra points. Brown has 42 fantasy points which is dead last in the NFL amongst kickers who have played in every game and despite him playing better of late don’t expect things to change this week. A match-up against one of the best scoring offenses (Arizona Cardinals) in Week 11 doesn’t bode well for him lighting up the fantasy football scoreboard.
Point Projection: 5 points
27. Robbie Gould (Chicago Bears) vs. Philadelphia
On the season Gould has 60 fantasy football points which ranks 16th in terms of points at the kicker position. His 6.7 points per game average isn’t bad but it’s not what his owners’ were hoping for when they drafted Gould as their top kicking option entering 2009. A stubborn Philadelphia Eagles defense has allowed opponents to attempt just 11 field goals on the season and with the kicking conditions being less than ideal in Chicago on Sunday night we expect this to continue in Week 11.
Point Projection: 5 points
28. Jason Elam (Atlanta Falcons) @ New York Giants
Those were the days seems to be Jason Elam’s theme song in 2009. The 17-year NFL veteran has seen better times then season, in which he has made just 9 of 14 field goal attempts and even missed an extra point for the first time since 2005. Despite Elam’s struggles the match-up against the New York Giants is not a good one. On the season the Giants have allowed just six field goal attempts in nine games and a league low 4.8 fantasy football points per game to opposing kickers. Whether it’s the struggles of Elam or the match-up you are better off keeping him reserved in Week 11.
Point Projection: 4 points
29. Joe Nedney (San Francisco 49ers) @ Green Bay
Nedney used to be a kicker you could rely on to get you between 7-10 points on a weekly basis but with the San Francisco 49ers offense being all over the map in 2009 this hasn’t been the case. Since the 49ers Week 6 bye Nedney is attempted just four field goals and nine extra points. In fact, his 19 fantasy football points during that span are towards the bottom at the kicking position. Don’t expect things to be much different this week as the Green Bay Packers have allowed opponents to attempt just 10 FGs on the season.
Point Projection: 4 points
30. Sebastian Janikowski (Oakland Raiders) vs. Cincinnati
Last week marked the first time in the season that Janikowski missed a field goal attempt. Entering Week 10, Janikowski was a perfect 12 of 12 on FG chances and enjoying his best season in terms of accuracy. Even with the lone miss the veteran has done a stellar job when used but the fact that he has a league low seven extra points has prevented him from being fantasy football relevant. Facing a top ranked Cincinnati Bengals defense is no easy task and once again means Janikowski has no business being in your lineup.
Point Projection: 3 points
31. Ryan Succop (Kansas City Chiefs) vs. Pittsburgh
Succop has been what we expected out of a rookie kicker on a bad offense. He is 14 of 18 in field goal chances with three of his four misses coming from 50+ yards but it’s his 12 extra points that have prevented him from being higher than the 17th ranked fantasy kickers. With the match-ups right over the last two weeks his owners’ were rewarded with 18 fantasy points but this isn’t the week to start Succop. The Kansas City Chiefs lack playmakers and will have trouble moving the football against a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that should have a field day in Kansas City.
Point Projection: 3 points
32. Phil Dawson (Cleveland Browns) @ Detroit
Last and least on our rankings is Cleveland Browns kicker Phil Dawson. The Browns offense averages a league low 8.7 points per game and hasn’t scored an offensive touchdown since Week 6. If you are even thinking about starting Dawson it might be time to quite while you’re ahead.
