WIDE RECEIVERS – START ‘EM

Sidney Rice (Minnesota Vikings) vs. Detroit

Sidney Rice has undoubtedly been the Vikings most impressive wide receiver this season, overtaking Bernard Berrian as the No. 1 option in a efficient Minnesota Vikings passing offense. His big play potential and sure hands have led to future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre trusting Rice and looking his way often. Speaking of his hands, Rice has hauled in 71% of all balls thrown his way, which is a higher percentage than bigger named wide outs like Larry Fitzgerald, Randy Moss and Reggie Wayne. In what looks to be a lopsided match-up against the Detroit Lions, almost all Vikings players should be started, but Rice should see some of the biggest benefits against a Lions defense that allows over 22 points per game to opposing wide receivers.

Braylon Edwards (New York Jets) vs. Jacksonville

Coming off their bye week, the New York Jets big play wide out Braylon Edwards was finally given ample time to build rapport with rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. Hopefully the extra work has paid off for Edwards’ fantasy football owners. Edwards’ modus operandi has been to be consistently inconsistent in his career, but we’re expecting a big day from him against a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that has allowed 100 fantasy points (standard scoring) to the wide receiver position over the last four games.

Pierre Garcon (Indianapolis Colts) vs. New England

At the start of the season Garcon had a big game early and became the flavor of the week on the waiver wire only to fizzle as time went on. However, an injury to Austin Collie helped Garcon see more reps and haul in five receptions in Week 9. The reason why we feel Garcon is worthy of a start this week is his speed. Speed looks to play an asset against a defense like the New England Patriots who will be looking to confuse Peyton Manning this weekend. We’re not gonna lie and say that this is a great match-up for the Colts; New England is 4th in the NFL allowing 180 passing yards per game (and only 9 TDs through 8 games), but with Peyton Manning, match-ups typically don’t matter. Garcon’s value still is as a WR3 or Flex play in but with the Patriots’ making sure Reggie Wayne doesn’t beat them he could be the open man on Sunday, and that typically means Manning will find him.

TIGHT ENDS – START ‘EM

Kellen Winslow (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) @ Miami

With the strong showing that quarterback Josh Freeman put up in Week 9, it’s hard to say that Winslow isn’t a worthy start on a weekly basis. With rookie QBs under center it’s always hard to know what to expect consistently, but most rookies tend to lean on their tight end and Winslow is a good option to rely on. Even if Freeman struggles against a Miami Dolphins defense that will show multiple defensive packages to throw the rookie QB off guard, Winslow has the match-up to produce. The Dolphins have allowed 8.8 fantasy football points per week to opposing TEs, so expect Winslow to play a big role in the Buccaneers offensive game-plan this week.

KICKERS – START ‘EM

John Carney (New Orleans Saints) @ St. Louis

Typically we wouldn’t think that it is necessary to put the kicker from the best offense against what might be the worst team in the NFL on our Start ‘Em list, but Carney is only owned in 82% of Yahoo! Standard Leagues, so it’s obvious that some people aren’t paying attention anymore. John Carney is a good kicking option anyway you look at this match-up. If the St. Louis Rams defense comes out flat the Saints will score loads of touchdowns and Carney will kick multiple extra points. But if the Rams defense comes out fired up off a bye week and happens to stall a few Saints’ drive it will allow Carney to mix in a few field goals as well. Anyway you look at it, Carney is a must start in Week 10.

DEFENSES – START ‘EM

Tennessee Titans D/ST vs. Buffalo

The Tennessee Titans played a solid overall game versus the San Francisco 49ers in Week 9, posting 4 sacks, 3 interceptions and a defensive touchdown by defensive back Cortland Finnegan. The 49ers could be considered an offensive juggernaut compared to the Buffalo Bills (OK, that may be an overstatement, but the Bills are 29th in the NFL with 265 yards of offense per game) and this looks to be a favorable match-up in which the Titans’ make it three straight games with 10+ fantasy football points. Since the Week 7 bye Tennessee has looked like a different team and a big Week 10 will get them one step closer to becoming the defense that everyone drafted in August.
