WIDE RECEIVERS – SIT ‘EM
Santana Moss (Washington Redskins) vs. Denver
It’s not to say that Moss can’t put up a good week every now and then, but Champ Bailey is going to be covering him in this one. Santonio Holmes had a solid game in week 9 against the Champ (6 catches, 93 yards), but Santana doesn’t have Ben Roethlisberger throwing the ball his way. Jason Campbell is a slight downgrade from Big Ben to put it nicely, and it should directly correlate to a weak week for the lesser Moss.
Eddie Royal (Denver Broncos) @ Washington
Perhaps we should stop picking on the Broncos/Redskins game that will most likely be a low-scoring affair, but both teams have good defenses and below-average offenses (perhaps a compliment when it comes to the Redskins’ offense). Eddie Royal has been perhaps the biggest disappointment for a WR in 2009, posting just 25 catches for 232 receiving yards and 0 TDs (you can count the return TDs if you’d like, though). Keep him on your bench against the best pass defense in the NFL because this is not the week this sleeper wakes up.
Dwayne Bowe (Kansas City Chiefs) @ Oakland
Bowe has had a solid overall year, but it’s gotta be hard to start him each week with so many unknowns on the Chiefs. While we like RB Jamaal Charles as a RB this week, Bowe is now competing with free agent pick-up Chris Chambers when it comes to the receiving game, and Chambers is 1-0 against Bowe this season. The Raiders have only allowed 7 TDs to WRs this season through 8 games, so while Bowe will see his targets and get some hard-fought yardage, his prospects of scoring a TD are slim. Other than his match-up against the Raiders early this season (56 yards and a TD), Bowe has been relatively contained in his career vs. Oakland (254 yards, 1 TD).
Nate Washington & Kenny Britt (Tennessee Titans) vs. Buffalo
With all the struggles the Buffalo Bills have had, it apparently hasn’t been in the air where they have been defeated. The Bills have allowed only 6 passing TDs to 15 INTs in their 8 games this season. This week they go up against a run first (run second and run third) offense in the Tennessee Titans. With Justin Gage out due to fractured bones in his back, some fantasy owners may be looking at the likes of Washington and Britt as WR3 type options; however, that’s a mistake. It actually would be a surprise to see the Titans throw more than 15 times this game. Limited throws means limited opportunities for these two to put up fantasy points.
TIGHT ENDS – SIT ‘EM
Tony Gonzalez (Atlanta Falcons) @ Carolina
In moving to Atlanta, with a talented young QB and some solid weapons surrounding him, high expectations were set for Tony G. However, the tight end, while still a top-10 option, hasn’t lived up to those lofty projections. Gonzalez has averaged 7 fantasy points over his last three weeks, slightly worse than his season average of 8 fantasy points per week. Things don’t look to improve this week. The Panthers are a tough match-up allowing only 10 passing TDs to 9 INTs and less than 182 yards per game through the air. Tony G.’s been solid, but he could struggle against the Panthers strong secondary in week 10.
KICKERS – SIT ‘EM
Jeff Reed (Pittsburgh Steelers) vs. Cincinnati
For the 2nd week in a row, we place Jeff Reed as our Sit ‘Em Fantasy Kicker. He logged 4 fantasy points on 4 XPs against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, and he has yet to post double-digit fantasy points from the kicker position this year. While his offense may put up a few scores, his chances of double-digit fantasy points aren’t good (Heinz Field is the worst place to kick in the NFL).
DEFENSES – SIT ‘EM
Philadelphia Eagles D/ST @ San Diego
The Eagles were not the typical Eagles when they played against the Cowboys on Sunday Night. While they were able to record 1 interception and 4 sacks, they weren’t able to get off the field when it mattered most, and as a result, Tony Romo was able to beat them. The Eagles go up against a well-rounded offense led by Philip Rivers, who while our QB Sit ‘Em this week, can always do damage. The Eagles may win this game, but they are not a recommended start for this weekend versus the Chargers.
