The final countdown! In a pinch for a skill player that will produce at a high level during your fantasy football playoff challenge, but not sure what route to go? Well, no need to fret the small stuff because the Bruno Boys will help make your lineup decision easier. From Quarterbacks to Defenses, we have you covered on who you should feel comfortable about plugging into your Divisional Round lineup. Now, it’s time to cut to the chase and read our Fantasy Football Championship Round Start Ems advice.
QUARTERBACKS – START ‘EM
Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) vs. Minnesota
The Minnesota Vikings were extremely disruptive to the game plan of the Dallas Cowboys last weekend. As a result they limited Dallas to less than 300 yards of total offense and just three points. Don’t expect that to happen this week against the New Orleans Saints. These Saints are an explosive offense that can do a much better job taking care of the football and features multiple players that can make big plays. Brees is an unbelievable fantasy football quarterback who has enough weapons on offense that the Vikings cannot key in on one single player. While there are three potential good quarterback starts this weekend (Peyton Manning and Brett Favre are the others), Brees should bring the greatest reward this weekend for fantasy owners.
RUNNING BACKS – START ‘EM
Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings) @ New Orleans
Enough is enough. Will the real Adrian Peterson please stand up? Fumble problems and late-season issues aside, he is the most talented running back in the Conference Championship games, and thus has the highest potential to excel. Combine those aspects in with the fact that the New Orleans Saints allowed 101 rushing yards and two touchdowns to the Arizona Cardinals last week. On top of that, New Orleans allowed 19.2 fantasy points per game to the running back position and has allowed at least 100 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in four straight games. Despite a lackluster performance in the Divisional Round fantasy football owners can count on “All Day” to step it up with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.
WIDE RECEIVERS – START ‘EM
Pierre Garcon (Indianapolis Colts) vs. New York Jets
Last week, it was definitely a surprise to see cornerback Darrelle Revis playing mostly zone in their game against the San Diego Chargers. By playing zone, it allowed the Chargers to use their best wide receiver weapon, Vincent Jackson, to the tune of 7 catches for 111 yards. Garcon has been a consistent fantasy football threat for the majority of the season, and despite having just 34 receiving yards last week you can’t overlook the fact that Peyton Manning targeted him 10 times. Look for Garcon to prove his worth this week and be a bargain buy in the Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge.
Sidney Rice (Minnesota Vikings) @ New Orleans
After watching Rice destroy the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional Round, is there any doubt that this man should be starting for your team this weekend? His six catch, 141 yard, three touchdown performance went down as one of the better playoff performances in a long while from the wide receiver position. On two different occasions, Rice was completely blanketed and made phenomenal catches that led to his 47-yard and 45-yard touchdown catches. The New Orleans Saints were 24th in the NFL in fantasy football points allowed to the opposition’s wide outs, allowing over 20 points per contest. If Minnesota is going to win this football games Rice will have to play a large part and you better believe that signal caller Brett Favre will be focusing on getting his best playmaker the football.
TIGHT ENDS – START ‘EM
Dallas Clark (Indianapolis Colts) vs. New York Jets
If you’re starting to sense a theme, you should realize that with the scarcity of teams, the studs are the guys to aim for. Dallas Clark is easily the best tight end out of the bunch, and seeing that Antonio Gates was open all game and posted 93 receiving yards on the same New York Jets team, Clark should be at least as consistent as that.
KICKERS – START ‘EM
Garrett Hartley (New Orleans Saints) vs. Minnesota
Unfortunately, our theory last weekend was that in the “shoot-out” with the Arizona Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints, both kickers would prove fantasy football worthy. Well, the Cardinals offense never could get it going and kicker Neil Rackers kicked just two extra points in that game. While the Minnesota Vikings will undoubtedly do better than those Cardinals, Ryan Longwell will compete for the best kicker option this weekend, with aforementioned Hartley. Both of these options will be good starts but we don’t want to jinx it by listing both options, like we did in the Divisional Round. Gotta love dome kickers in January…
DEFENSES – START ‘EM
Indianapolis Colts D/ST vs. New York Jets
If you look at the teams that light up the scoreboard on offense and give up the least amount of fantasy football points to opposing defenses, you will notice No.2 is the New Orleans Saints, No.3 – Indianapolis Colts, and No.4 – Minnesota Vikings. In layman’s terms, these teams rarely turn the ball over, rarely get sacked, and typically score a lot of points. In these same rankings, the New York Jets rank 20th. The Jets have played unbelievably reliable these first two playoff weeks, but can you trust rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez for yet another game? Especially is the Colts take an early lead and Sanchez is forced to throw? Ask Rex Ryan and the answer is yes…but we believe that the Colts have the best shot at fantasy football points at the defensive position..
