With six teams having this Sunday off, Week 7 should bring more lineup scrambling than any other week of the season. Permanent fixtures in lineups such as Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Jamaal Chales and LeSean McCoy are all off, so some of the players discussed in this article could be their bye-week replacements.
It’s a tough time for fantasy owners and that’s why studying matchups are imperative during this stretch of the season. So without further adieu, these are the key matchups we’re looking at here in Week 7.
Josh Freeman vs. New Orleans Saints Secondary
Josh Freeman probably isn’t anyone’s QB1 unless owners are in deep 14 or 16 team leagues, but with Matt Ryan, Michael Vick, Philip Rivers and Peyton Manning all watching from the sidelines, he is a guy owners may want to take a long, hard look at this week.
He and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers welcome the New Orleans Saints and their NFL- worst pass defense to town for an NFC South showdown on Sunday afternoon. Through five games played, the Saints have given up nine touchdowns via the air and haven’t displayed any ability to stop any such passing attack.
When it comes to offense, Freeman leads one that now has a true No. 1 receiver in Vincent Jackson, which has helped open up doors for Mike Williams who has bounced back in his third season.
Another factor to consider here is the possibility of Tampa Bay playing catch-up in the second half. The Saints have struggled this year, but everyone knows what a high-powered offense they possess and their ability to strike quick and often.
The Bruno Boys currently have him ranked 13th among quarterbacks, but his matchup garners him the possibility of finishing out the week in the top 5.
