FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 9 STARTS: QB | RB | WR | TE | K | DEF
Welcome to Week 9 of the 2012 NFL season and the fifth week of byes. Four teams are off this week including San Francisco, St. Louis, the New York Jets, and New England. Off the table are players like Sam Bradford, Dustin Keller, the 49ers defense, and no Rob Gronkowski.
Here are our “Fantasy Football Start ‘Ems” for Week 8 of the 2012 season. As a reminder, everyone knows to start elite players like Aaron Rodgers, Calvin Johnson, and LeSean McCoy, so when we compile our list we make sure to focus on serviceable players that will benefit from a favorable matchup.
QUARTERBACKS – START ’EM
Carson Palmer (Oakland Raiders) vs. Tampa Bay
We realize it’s been slim pickings for Palmer owners but after a slow start he’s raised his game in the last month and has had the reliable Denarius Moore to throw to. Week 9 he squares up against a Tampa Bay defense that’s averaging 309.6 passing yards (31st) while stuffing the run to just 85.1 rushing yards, leaving him few options but to sling it. The Bucs are also thin at cornerback and are in danger of losing their second starting cornerback to a four-game suspension for using Adderall (Eric Wright).

Josh Freeman (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) at Oakland Raiders
In the other huddle of this matchup, the much-maligned Freeman has thrown for three TD passes in three straight weeks and Doug Martin’s big game against the Vikings is the best thing that could have happened. That’s taken some of the pressure off of Freeman to do everything himself and he knows where Dallas Clark, Vincent Jackson, Tiquan Underwood and Mike Williams like to get their passes thrown to them.
