Here are our “Fantasy Football Start ‘Ems” for Week 6 of the 2012 season. As a reminder, everyone knows to start elite players like Aaron Rodgers, Calvin Johnson, and LeSean McCoy, so when we compile our list we make sure to focus on serviceable players that will benefit from a favorable matchup.
Jason Hanson (Detroit Lions) at Philadelphia Eagles
The league’s 10th leading kicker is matched up against a defense that’s been bending but not breaking all season. Because the Lions have been unable to finish drives, Hanson has been one of their better fantasy options. He’s made 12 of 13, missing only one from 40-49 yards, and Hanson is tied with Greg Zuerlein for having the most attempted field goals (9) from 40 yards and out. All of the conditions are ripe for a big start for the Lions kicker.

Shaun Suisham (Pittsburgh Steelers) at Tennessee Titans
The Titans are giving up so many points this season, the thought here is that the Steelers should get a combination of extra points and field goals for Suisham. Frequency and opportunity are both on Suisham’s side. Also, Rashard Mendenhall is up and running now and that’s a huge help for the Steelers because they can get deep into Titans territory, which is a good thing since Suisham’s range isn’t as deep as other kickers.
