Batten down the hatches, it’s Week 5 of the 2012 NFL season, and we’re entering our first big bye week. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts were off last week, but with the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers all off this week, fantasy rosters are changing drastically, owners are swapping players, and difficult decisions are being made. We’re here to help you with those final decisions before you submit your lineup. Also be sure to check out our Week 5 Waiver Wire Savior , Waiver Wire Cut List articles, and Long-Term Investing Articles.
Here are our “Fantasy Football Start ‘Ems” for Week 5 of the 2012 season. As a reminder, everyone knows to start elite players like Aaron Rodgers, Calvin Johnson, and LeSean McCoy, so when we compile our list we make sure to focus on serviceable players that will benefit from a favorable matchup.
RUNNING BACKS – START ’EM
Marshawn Lynch (Seattle Seahawks) at Carolina Panthers
One month into the season and it is Lynch, not Arian Foster who is in full beast mode, leading the league in rushing yards. He’s doing it with a rookie at quarterback and a mediocre receiving corps. Call the Panthers defense the Sizzler of the NFL because they are an unending feast for running backs. Look for Lynch to get more action in the passing game too since Carolina has given up 876 all-purpose yards to running backs.
