FANTASY FOOTBALL CUT LIST: QB | RB | WR | TE | K | DEF
The fantasy football season is young but we’ve already seen enough of some players to know that they are going to live up to our draft day expectations of them. Whether the plays has fallen behind on their teams’ depth charts, suffered an injury or bad play, these guys just aren’t worth rostering right now.
In any case, it’s really easy to want to cut all kinds of players this early in the season but we definitely advise against it. We’ve already release our list of waiver pickups to target in the Weekly Waiver Wire Savior. There are a lot of underachieving players that we would hang onto for at least another couple weeks, but here’s a list of the guys we’d drop right now to make room for potential additions. Just remember it’s too early in the season to start dumping elite players like Chris Johnson. Give your elite fantasy football players a chance to bounce back this week. A lot can change with another game in the books.
RUNNING BACKS—CUT THEM LOOSE
Daniel Thomas, RB, Miami Dolphins
With a thin Dolphins backfield in 2011, rookie Daniel Thomas was expected to thrive. Unfortunately for him, former Saint Reggie Bush had other ideas. Thomas spent almost the entire season with an injury of one sort or another and even when he was healthy, Bush outplayed him. Thomas managed an unimpressive 3.5 yards per carry. With Ryan Tannehill throwing 36 times, it appears as if head Coach Joe Philbin is sticking with his plan to install a west coast offense. That only hurt Thomas’ value even more especially since he has been in the caoch’s doghouse all offseason. Thomas managed 11 yards on three carries Sunday before leaving with an apparent concussion. His status for next week is in doubt but even if it wasn’t, he’s not worth owning in any leagues right now. Look for rookie Lamar Miller to pass him on the depth chart.

Shane Vereen, RB, New England Patriots
Vereen has been quite highly praised by fantasy pundits for a player that has only only 15 career carries. Widely praised as the best back on the Patriots roster, Vereen can’t seem to stay healthy when it counts. His nagging foot injury has caused him to miss some training camp in addition to the season opener. Stevan Ridley who is ahead of him on the depth chart played great in Vereen’s absence with over 150 yards and a touchdown on 23 touches. Ridley appears to have a firm hold on the Patriots backfield. There is no reason to think an injury prone Shanve Vereen will earn more than a third down role even when he comes back.
Consider Dropping In: 10-team and 12-team Leagues
LeGarrette Blount, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Blount went into the offseason in what appeared to be a RBBC with rookie Doug Martin. Over the preseason he lost what role he was going to get. In week one it was quite clear that Doug Martin is going to be the Buccaneers bell cow. Blount had just three carries for eight yards, to Doug Martin’s 24 carries for 95 yards. Martin also outperformed Blount in the passing game. The signing of D.J. Ware, who also looked more effective then Blount, only makes Blount’s role more tentative. Presently, Blount doesn’t even to have value as a handcuff for Martin. Drop him for one of our recommended waiver wire pickups.

Isaac Redman, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Redman looked like a good bet to start the Steelers’ first few games while Mendenhall healed. An ankle injury derailed that thought in the preseason. Redman got the start on Sunday but quickly gave way to Jonathan Dwyer after being rendered ineffective with only 20 yards on 11 carries. With Mendenhall already practicing, the value of all the Steelers’ backups is quickly diminishing. Redman’s value even if healthy for week two is negligible. Since his ankle injury is lingering, we recommend dropping him right away.
