FANTASY FOOTBALL CUT LIST:  QB  |  RB  |  WR  |  TE  |  K  |  DEF

Week 9 of the fantasy football season is in the books and we now have a pretty good idea of the players set to underachieve this season. Some players are just stuck on terrible teams while others are just plain bad. We’ve also added a few players to the list that should be dropped because of injury. If you read our Waiver Wire Savior articles and are wondering who to drop this week, have a look at the list below. All of these guys are safe cuts in most league formats.

QUARTERBACKS—CUT THEM LOOSE

Christian Ponder, QB, Minnesota Vikings

No new “must cuts” showed their faces at quarterback this week so we are going to re-emphasize a couple of the guys we’ve mentioned in the past that are still widely owned. Christian Ponder is the first of those guys. Ponder has thrown for under 70 yards in two of the three games since we recommended dropping him. He has only two touchdowns in that span versus four interceptions. A good sign that you need to drop a quarterback is when his running back has more yards from scrimmage over a three game span than he does. That’s the case here with Adrian Peterson having 479 yards to Ponders’ 409 yards over that span. Ponder’s schedule continues to be terrible the rest of the season. Dump him.

Consider Dropping In: 10-team, 12-team and 14-team Leagues

Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks

Russell Wilson has had three very good games in the last four weeks and we suspect that he will be picked back up again in many leagues. We don’t recommend that since Wilson has been unpredictable at best and has the potential to really be bad. After nine games, Wilson still has yet to pass the 300 yard mark and has gone over 240 yards only once. He’s getting touchdowns thanks in part to the strength of the run game and the Seattle Seahawk’s excellent defense. He really is a poor man’s Alex Smith in terms of fantasy value right now but we don’t consider the real Alex Smith to be very ownable either.  In any case, Wilson has a tough stretch of matchups to end the season and it’s unlikely he’ll give you much help in the playoffs. Cut him now.

Consider Dropping In: 10-team, 12-team and 14-team Leagues

Cut Them Loose Watch List: Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens), Phillip Rivers (San Diego Chargers)

Keep Them Cut: Tim Tebow (New York Jets), Matt Cassel (Kansas City Chiefs), Blaine Gabbert (Jacksonville Jaguars), Christian Ponder (Minnesota Vikings), Kevin Kolb (Arizona Cardinals), John Skelton (Arizona Cardinals), Alex Smith (San Francisco 49ers), Sam Bradford (St. Louis Rams), Mark Sanchez (New York Jets)
