WEEK 10 RANKINGS QB | RB | WR | TE | K | DEF
Week 9 was among the lowest-scoring for fantasy kickers this season. In all, just six players had double-digit fantasy points, led by Phil Dawson and Robbie Gould, who each had 16 points. But there were 16 players who amassed between six and 10 points, so it’s rather unlikely that fantasy owners won or lost their games on the strength of their kickers in Week 9.
How will this week turn out? Let’s take a look at our Fantasy Football Week 10 Kicker Rankings and find out.
::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF NOVEMBER 8, 2012::
1. Matt Bryant (Atlanta Falcons) @ New Orleans
Bryant had a busy night in Atlanta’s win over Dallas, attempting six field goals and hitting from 32, 36, 45 and 46 yards but failing to convert attempts from 37 and 43 yards. Those are kicks that Bryant usually hits, and account for two of the three field goals he has whiffed on this season. He is still second at his position in fantasy points, and has a good match-up this week against the Saints.
Point Projection: 16 points
2. Stephen Gostkowski (New England Patriots) vs. Buffalo
Gostkowski and the Patriots had a bye last week after traveling home from England after his team’s win over the Rams. He is still fourth among kickers in fantasy points this year, and remains the league leader in extra points. Gostkowski should only see that lead increase this week against the Bills, whom we expect the Patriots to roll up the points against.
Point Projection: 15 points
3. David Akers (San Francisco 49ers) vs. St. Louis
Akers and the 49ers had their bye last week, so those fantasy owners who dropped him are probably trying to pick him up right now. But that’s based on his past success, because this year he’s been merely average, and is tied for 15th in fantasy points at his position. Akers hasn’t had double-digit fantasy points since Week 2, and has not kicked more than a single field goal in three of his last four games.
Point Projection: 13 points

4. Lawrence Tynes (New York Giants) @ Cincinnati
Tynes hit field goals from 23 and 50 yards, but also came up short on a 51-yard attempt which was only his third miss of the season in New York’s loss to Pittsburgh last week. He maintained his place at number one among fantasy points for kickers this season, and the miss was only his third on the year. He leads all kickers in field goal attempts and field goals made, and faces the Bengals this week, who have given up the ninth-most FPPG in the league to kickers.
Point Projection: 13 points
5. Sebastian Janikowski (Oakland Raiders) @ Baltimore
The man also known as “Sea Bass” made his only three-point attempt in Oakland’s loss to Tampa Bay last week, a 29-yarder, while also making three extra points. It was the first time this season that Janikowski failed to make two or more field goals in a game, yet he remains in the top-10 in fantasy scoring among kickers. He should get back to making more field goals this week in Baltimore against a Ravens team that has given up the fourth-most FPPG to kickers this year.
Point Projection: 13 points
6. Justin Tucker (Baltimore Ravens) vs. Oakland
Tucker made his only field goal attempt, from 43 yards, during Baltimore’s win over Cleveland last week. He also kicked a pair of extra points in the contest, giving him six fantasy points for the game. He has dropped to eighth on the fantasy leaderboard at his position because after starting the season with three field goals in each of his first two games, has made just a single three-pointer in four of his last six. We like him to do more damage than that this week against Oakland, who is tied for second-most fantasy points per game allowed to kickers.
Point Projection: 12 points
7. Matt Prater (Denver Broncos) @ Carolina
Prater’s 43-yard field goal in Denver’s win at Cincinnati was his only three-point try of the game, but he did make four PATs. It was the third consecutive game in which he’s had at least four extra points, and he’s now tied for third in that statistic for the season. Prater hasn’t been kicking as many field goals as we thought he might this year, leaving him in the middle of the pack on the fantasy leaderboard, but you can’t ignore him this week, not against a Carolina team that is allowing more FPPG to kickers than any other team in the league.
Point Projection: 12 points
8. Shaun Suisham (Pittsburgh Steelers) vs. Kansas City
Suisham made a trio of PATs and his only field goal try, from 30 yards as the Steelers took down the Giants last week. He is tied for ninth on the year in fantasy points at his position, having made multiple field goals in six of his eight contests this season. Suisham has an excellent chance to climb the fantasy leaderboard against the Chiefs this week, a terrible team that is allowing the sixth-most FPPG to opposing kickers.
Point Projection: 11 points
9. Dan Carpenter (Miami Dolphins) vs. Tennessee
Carpenter nailed both of his field goals last week, from 31 and 37 yards, along with a pair of PATs in Miami’s loss to Indianapolis. He’s tied for 24th in field goals made and is 27th in field goal percentage this season, so even though he hasn’t been anything close to a fantasy stalwart, if there was ever a week to consider him, it would be this one. That’s because the Dolphins play a truly bad Titans team that gives up points in every way possible, including the second-most FPPG (tied) in the league to kickers.
Point Projection: 10 points
10. Jason Hanson (Detroit Lions) @ Minnesota
Hanson’s 42-yard field goal last week during Detroit’s win over Jacksonville was his first since Week 6, but he also missed a 47-yard attempt in the game. Despite all that, the veteran is tied for fifth among kickers in fantasy points this year because 11 of his 17 field goals have come from 40 or more yards. Hanson goes to Minnesota this week to face the Vikings, who he was 2-for-2 in field goals against back in Week 4.
Point Projection: 9 points
11. Adam Vinatieri (Indianapolis Colts) @ Jacksonville
Vinatieri was fifth in fantasy points among kickers this week, making field goals from 23, 43 and 47 yards but failing to convert from 48 and having a 54-yarder blocked. So it could have been a very good day for his fantasy owners, but even though it wasn’t, he has every chance to make this week a good one against a Jaguars team that has a bad defense and is allowing the eighth-most FPPG to kickers.
Point Projection: 9 points
12. Dan Bailey (Dallas Cowboys) @ Philadelphia
Bailey was 2-for-3 in field goals during the Cowboys’ loss to the Falcons on Sunday, missing from 54 yards while making 23 and 32 yard kicks. He’s only missed a pair of field goals this season, with each coming from beyond 50 yards, which is one reason why he’s squarely in the middle of the fantasy leaderboard among kickers. Bailey does have a solid match-up against the Eagles this week, but there are better options to be found.
Point Projection: 9 points
13. Garrett Hartley (New Orleans Saints) vs. Atlanta
Hartley had another miss for the Saints in their win over the Eagles last week. He whiffed from 52 yards, and has made just seven of his 10 three-point attempts this season. Five of those have come from inside 30 yards, so anything from distance has been an adventure for him. We love all the PATs, but Hartley is far too untrustworthy to be a fantasy starter.
Point Projection: 9 points
14. Robbie Gould (Chicago Bears) vs. Houston
When your team scores 51 points, it’s likely the kicker is going to have some fantasy points. And that’s exactly what happened with Gould, as his three field goals and six PATs in Chicago’s thrashing of Tennessee tied him for the week’s fantasy point lead. We don’t foresee a repeat of that this week however, because a defensive battle between two very good defenses is likely to limit offensive opportunities.
Point Projection: 9 points
