It’s so easy to start cutting players left and right from your fantasy team following a poor performance in Week 1. You’re angry, upset and already tired of those bums. That said, the first few weeks of the NFL season is never a good time to jump the gun on cutting players. Your assessment, as good as it may be, is based on only one or two weeks of performance. A lot can change in the first few weeks. That’s why we suggest you monitor these players closely and keep your finger poised over the big red drop button.
While you are watching to see if these players can redeem themselves, you should be checking out our weekly Fantasy Football Waiver Wire - Pick Them Up article so you can start planning on whom to pick up in their place.
QUARTERBACKS—CUT THEM LOOSE
Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts)
In the offseason Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning had neck surgery and it was mostly minor news because the team was confident he would be ready for the regular season. Then the preseason came and the news came out that Manning’s injury was slow to heal. When Indianapolis signed Kerry Collins, it was a warning sign that Manning might be in some trouble. Most recently there have been rumors out of Indianapolis that Manning could miss the entire season. If you own Manning, things are not looking good. At the very least Manning is going to miss eight to 12 weeks. At the worst, we won’t see him until 2012. Unless you have an extremely deep bench and want to hold onto Manning, it’s time to cut him.
Consider Dropping In: 10-Team, 12-Team and 14-Team Leagues
Cut Them Loose Watch List: Matt Cassel (Kansas City Chiefs), Donovan McNabb (Minnesota Vikings)
