Now we enter the dreaded Week 17, and it is dreaded for multiple reasons. The first being that it is the final week of the regular season and standard fantasy football as we know it is coming to a close. The second being that for the leagues that use the final week to determine its champions have to deal with teams that bench star players and starters to rest them for the playoffs. There are a few big names in the Fantasy Football Week 17 Waiver Wire - Cut Them Loose article, such as Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and when seeing a play of his caliber on this list it’s important to remember the situation.

When viewing the writeups of the following players it’s important to remember that these recommendations are for standard leagues, and not keeper or dynasty leagues.

While you are watching to see if your elite players can redeem themselves, you should be checking out our weekly Fantasy Football Waiver Wire - Pick Them Up article so you can start planning on whom to pick up in their place.

QUARTERBACKS—-CUT THEM LOOSE

Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens)

From a fantasy standpoint Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has been fairly consistent this season albeit unspectacular. In that regard he’s been a solid fantasy contributor because consistency is key. However he doesn’t have the big games you want from the quarterback situation. This week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals won’t change that. Flacco did score 16 fantasy points against the Bengals in Week 11, but Cincinnat’s been good against quarterbacks this season. Plus, an early lead could mean a heavy dose of Ray Rice and Ricky Williams, which seems likely. Though Flacco’s been consistent, he’s not going to score many points this week, which is why we’ve recommended dropping him. If better options don’t exist then you could do worse than Flacco, but don’t expect a breakout game.

Christian Ponder (Minnesota Vikings)

In last week’s win over the Washington Redskins, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder took not one but two brutal shots to the head. The first was on a slide where a hit thrashed him violently against the turf. He returned, and later got crunched again, this time on a gang tackle. Ponder suffered a concussion and left the game. He’s questionable this week, and given the NFL’s new stance on concussions as well as it being a relatively meaningless game for the Vikings all but assures that Ponder won’t play this week against the Chicago Bears. So for those of you holding onto Ponder it’s OK to let him go now. He’s definitely got potential for the future, just not any for Week 17. Joe Webb is not a bad replacement if you’re in a bad spot with the injury to Ponder.
