Week 16 is the end of the playoffs in a lot of fantasy football leagues, or at least a semi-final week for leagues that use Week 17. It goes without saying that most any desirable player is already on a roster in most leagues, but there is still the potential to find a solid player or two to bolster depth at a position and make a difference over the final weeks of the season. Even those competing in consolation brackets can find players that can help them salvage some glory from an otherwise lost season.

Quick Note: Not all players that had strong Week 15 outings are on this list, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t have value. If you have any questions about free agents not discussed in this article, head over to the forums and we’ll help you with the answers.

Quarterbacks-Pick Them Up

Kyle Orton (Kansas City Chiefs)

Orton had a good performance in his first start for the Chiefs in Week 15, going 23-for-31 for 299 yards with no touchdowns but also no interceptions. That should be more than enough to solidify him as the team’s starting quarterback for the rest of the season as long as his finger injury does not give him any issues. Week 16 brings a particularly favorable matchup against the Oakland Raiders, who entered Week 15 allowing the fifth-most fantasy points (17.0 per game) to opposing quarterbacks and allowed 391 yards through the air and four touchdowns to Matt Stafford of the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Revenge may be on Orton’s mind in Week 17 against the Denver Broncos, who put him on waivers earlier in the season and have allowed six 300-yard passing games this season. Orton should still be available in a lot of leagues at this point, and is well worth adding in two-quarterback leagues for the final two weeks of the regular season.

Consider Adding In: 10-Team, 12-Team and 14-Team Leagues, particularly two-quarterback leagues

John Skelton (Arizona Cardinals)

Skelton went 28-for-46 for 313 yards with one touchdown and one interception on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, as he got another start in place of Kevin Kolb (concussion). He has 595 passing yards and four touchdowns over the last two weeks, which may be enough to earn him another start or two if there is any doubt about Kolb’s status. Week 16 and Week 17 do bring a couple of tough matchups though, as the Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahawks both entered Week 15 in the top 10 of the league against opposing quarterbacks, but the same could be said about Sunday’s game against the Browns. Skelton’s value goes down if Kolb is able to return to action, but there is some appeal here for owners in 12 and 14-team leagues due to how well he has played in spots this season.

Consider Adding In: 12-Team and 14-Team Leagues, particularly for Kevin Kolb owners
