Now it is judgment time. Many leagues this week will decide the fantasy football championship, or at least part of it. Some leagues do the two-week championship thing. Regardless, you still have time to make the last few roster moves, the last few tweaks to your lineup. Some are to pick up guys you need or cut the ones you don’t. Rest assured that the list of players below will no longer be helping any fantasy team this season, so take a look at our Fantasy Football Week 16 Waiver Wire - Cut Them Loose.

While you are watching to see if your elite players can redeem themselves, you should be checking out our weekly Fantasy Football Waiver Wire - Pick Them Up article so you can start planning on whom to pick up in their place.

QUARTERBACKS—-CUT THEM LOOSE

Matt Hasselbeck (Tennessee Titans)

Recent injuries to key quarterbacks have left some fantasy owners scrambling for somebody at that position. The saying is that “desperate times call for desperate measures,” but just how desperate are you? Tennessee Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is available in more than 50 percent of leagues, and though the veteran played well at the beginning of the season he’s faltered in the second half of it. Hasselbeck has not scored more than six fantasy points in any of his last five games, though to be fair he was injured, at and one benched in favor of rookie Jake Locker. Hasselbeck also has a poor matchup this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have given up eight touchdowns to 11 turnovers to quarterbacks in their last six games.

T.J. Yates (Houston Texans)

It seemed like a longshot that Houston Texans rookie quarterback T.J. Yates would play at all this season. The fifth-round pick out of North Carolina was stuck behind veterans Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart. Yates was mainly brought in as a developmental prospect. Then the Texans were struck by season-ending injuries to Schaub in Leinart in consecutive games, and were left with no choice but to thrust Yates into action. Yates played well, leading the Texans to wins in his first two starts and scoring 29 fantasy points in those games. He scored 19 points on the road against a good Cincinnati Bengals defense. Perhaps Yates was a late-season gem, and it’s not like he would be the only rookie quarterback to play well this season. Faced with a good matchup against the Carolina Panthers last week, Yates struggled, throwing for 221 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Yates was considered a developmental prospect for a reason and that’s because he’s very raw. He’s got a good matchup this week with the Indianapolis Colts, but Yates didn’t do much last week when he had a good matchup. You can stay away from him unless you’re willing to take a big gamble.
