RUNNING BACKS—-CUT THEM LOOSE
Jackie Battle (Kansas City Chiefs)
When he took over as the starter Kansas City Chiefs running back Jackie Battle had three consecutive good games, rushing for 265 yards and a touchdowns in Weeks 5, 7 and 8. It appeared that Battle was one of the few strong points for the Chiefs. Then Battle came back to Earth. In the last five weeks Battle has regressed week by week, going from 40 yards and 61 yards in Weeks 9 and 10 to 20 yards in Week 12 and 15 yards last week. Over those five games Battle averaged a lowly 3.2 fantasy points per game. In the last three weeks Battle’s averaged 2.4 yards per carry. Though the job was once Battle’s entirely, in recent weeks Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster have started to get more touches, and they’ve played better as well. Battle’s no longer playing as much as he was before, and when he has played he’s done nothing.
