In recent weeks we’ve thrown some pity towards the Houston Texans for their injury woes after they lost their top two quarterbacks, Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart, for the rest of the season. Now it’s the Chicago Bears’ turn. The Bears have lost quarterback Jay Cutler for the rest of the regular season and now running back Matt Forte is out 2-6 weeks with an MCL sprain. Marion Barber is a solid replacement for Forte. Caleb Hanie is not a good replacement for Cutler. We are not recommending cutting Forte just yet because he could return in time for some fantasy football playoff games. Cutler, well, you can say bye to him.

While you are watching to see if your elite players can redeem themselves, you should be checking out our weekly Fantasy Football Waiver Wire - Pick Them Up article so you can start planning on whom to pick up in their place.

QUARTERBACKS—-CUT THEM LOOSE

Jay Cutler (Chicago Bears)

Cutler wasn’t included on our Cut Them Loose list last week because at the time of the article the only thing known was that he had suffered a thumb injury. There were only rumors about the severity, so it didn’t make sense to try to jump the gun and advise to cut him. Now it’s known that Cutler’s thumb surgery will keep him out at least through the regular season, with the Bears hoping Cutler can return for the playoffs if they get there. However, it’s not a good sign when both Cutler and head coach Lovie Smith have publicly acknowledged that Cutler is likely not going to throw another pass this season. At the very least his fantasy season is over so go ahead and dump him, hopefully if you’re a Cutler owner you’ve got a capable backup.

Consider Dropping In: 10-Team, 12-Team and 14-Team Leagues

Josh Freeman (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman didn’t play in last week’s loss to the Carolina Panthers because of a shoulder injury. Josh Johnson started in his place and threw for 229 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Buccaneers had hoped Freeman could go last week, so it would seem likely that he’ll play this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars but as of Monday there was no indication that would be the case. Even if Freeman does return this week he has a bad matchup consider the Jaguars are the sixth-strongest defense against opposing quarterbacks. Also consider that in his last three starts Freeman has averaged just 10.3 fantasy points per game. If you must hold onto Freeman he does have a good matchup against the Panthers in Week 16, if your team makes it that far.

Consider Dropping In: 10-Team, 12-Team and 14-Team Leagues

Matt Hasselbeck (Tennessee Titans)

Before we bash Tennessee Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, let’s give the man some credit for playing as well as he did this season because not many people expected that. Hasselbeck completed 60.9 percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. However, Hasselbeck is no longer worth owning. In his last scored a combined 14 fantasy points for an average of 4.7 per game. He even struggled against a Buffalo Bills team last week that had given up 10 passing touchdowns in the previous three weeks. Two of the remaining games on the schedule are poor matchups (the Jaguars and Texans) and in the others you can expect the Titans running game to do most of the work.

Consider Dropping In: 10-Team, 12-Team and 14-Team Leagues
