::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF DECEMBER 29, 2011::

Week 16 was another productive one for fantasy kickers around the league. Graham Gano led the position with 17 fantasy points, and he was one of 14 kickers who amassed double-digit points during the week’s slate of games. San Francisco’s David Akers was tied for second during the week with 15 fantasy points; he leads all kickers in fantasy scoring, and should end the season at the top spot considering he is 25 points ahead of Dallas rookie Dan Bailey, who managed just one point last week.

There are plenty of quality match-ups in Week 17 for fantasy football kickers, so let’s take a look at how the position will fare in the final week of the regular season.

Standard Scoring

17-39 Yard Field Goal: 3 points |  40-49 Yard Field Goal: 4 points
50-plus Yard Field Goal: 5 points |  Extra Point: 1 point

1. David Akers (San Francisco 49ers) @ St. Louis

As we said in the intro, Akers leads all kickers in fantasy scoring and has set an NFL record with 42 field goals made this season. He had 14 fantasy points when he played the Rams in Week 13, one of his eight contests this season with at least 12 fantasy points. He should be good for more than that this week in St. Louis.
Point Projection: 15 points

2. John Kasay (New Orleans Saints) vs. Carolina

Kasay is third at his position in fantasy scoring, and has a chance to end the season in second place, as he’s only three points behind Dan Bailey. He’s second in the league in extra points, and from short range, he’s golden – Kasay is 21-for-21 in field goals inside 40 yards, but only 6-for-12 from beyond that range. He had 13 fantasy points back in Week 5 against the Panthers.
Point Projection: 14 points

3. Dan Bailey (Dallas Cowboys) @ New York Giants

Bailey is second at the kicker position in both fantasy scoring and field goals made, and his field goal percentage of 88.9 is fifth in the league. He only had one fantasy point last week because he did not make or even attempt a field goal, but it was only the fourth time this season that he did not make multiple field goals. When Bailey first played the Giants, in Week 14, he had 11 fantasy points.
Point Projection: 12 points

4. Stephen Gostkowski (New England Patriots) vs. Buffalo

Gostkowski is third among kickers in extra points made this season and fourth in fantasy scoring. He has made at least two field goals and accumulated double-digit fantasy points in each of his last three games. Gostkowski had four PATs and seven fantasy points against Buffalo in Week 3.
Point Projection: 12 points

5. Sebastian Janikowski (Oakland Raiders) vs. San Diego

No kicker has made more field goals from at least 40 yards this season than Janikowski, even though he missed two games this season due to injury. He had six fantasy points the first time around against the Chargers, back in Week 10.
Point Projection: 12 points

6. Matt Bryant (Atlanta Falcons) vs. Tampa Bay

Bryant, who leads all kickers with a 92.9 field goal percentage, is playing a Bucs team this week that has been simply horrendous of late. He had just seven fantasy points against Tampa when he first faced them in Week 3, but the Bucs are much worse now than they were then, and he has a great opportunity to put bunches of fantasy points on the board this week at home.
Point Projection: 11 points

7. Alex Henery (Philadelphia Eagles) vs. Washington

Henery has been solid for most of this season, and last week had a season-high 11 fantasy points against the Cowboys. He’s amassed 20 fantasy points over his last two games, and this week plays the Redskins, who have allowed the third-most fantasy points in the league to opposing kickers, and against whom he had eight fantasy points back in Week 6.
Point Projection: 10 points

8. Neil Rackers (Houston Texans) vs. Tennessee

Only four players have kicked more field goals this season than Rackers, who had 11 fantasy points against the Titans in Week 7, one of his eight games this season with double-digit fantasy points. His production has not waned much with T.J. Yates as Houston’s starting quarterback, and Rackers has made at least two field goals over each of the past three weeks.
Point Projection: 10 points

9.  Jason Hanson (Detroit Lions) @ Green Bay

Hanson has kicked only four field goals since Week 10, he’s made up for his lack of three-point boots with plenty of PATs. He has made at least four in each of his last three games, and hit five last week. Hanson had his worst fantasy day of the season on Thanksgiving when the Lions and Packers first met, with zero fantasy points due to one extra point and one missed field goal.
Point Projection: 10 points

10. Mike Nugent (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. Baltimore

Nugent’s 12 field goals from between 40 and 49 yards are tied for the most in the NFL, even though he hasn’t even attempted a kick from 50+ yards. He’s seventh among kickers in fantasy scoring and had six fantasy points against the Ravens in Week 11, which is tied for the second-fewest points he’s amassed in a game this year.
Point Projection: 10 points

11. Nick Novak (San Diego Chargers) @ Oakland

Novak has made at least one field goal in each of his last nine games, and has made at least four PATs in three of his last four outings. He was 1-for-2 in field goals with two extra points against Oakland in Week 10, a total of four fantasy points which tied for his second-fewest in a game this year.
Point Projection: 9 points

12. Robbie Gould (Chicago Bears) @ Minnesota

Gould is playing a Vikings team this week that has allowed more fantasy points to opposing kickers than any other team in the NFL, and against whom he had 15 (tied for his season-high) in Week 6. But the Bears’ offense is scuffling, and he hasn’t accumulated more than six fantasy points in any of his last four games, so expectations for him need to be tempered.
Point Projection: 9 points

13. Mason Crosby (Green Bay Packers) vs. Detroit

Crosby is fifth among kickers in fantasy scoring, and leads all kickers in extra points, but we’re not sure how much the Green Bay starters will play, so we’re not as enthusiastic about his chances this week as we might normally be. Still, this is the Packers we’re talking about, and they should be able to score enough for Crosby to have a solid day.
Point Projection: 9 points

14. Olindo Mare (Carolina Panthers) @ New Orleans

Mare has kicked only three field goals in his last four games, but the Panthers have been scoring touchdowns nearly at will, and he’s hit 18 extra points in his last four games. He had just three fantasy points, with no field goals made, when he and the Panthers played the Saints back in Week 5.
Point Projection: 8 points

15. Dan Carpenter (Miami Dolphins) vs. New York Jets

Since returning from his injury, Carpenter has been up and down, with two games in which he scored double-digit fantasy points, but also one contest where he managed only two points. When Carpenter first faced the Jets during Week 6, he didn’t kick any extra points, but was 2-for-2 on field goals, leading to six fantasy points.
Point Projection: 8 points

16. Lawrence Tynes (New York Giants) vs. Dallas

Tynes has the sixth-fewest fantasy points at his position for the season, but he’s been piling up plenty of points lately, with at least nine fantasy points in three of his last four outings. He managed nine points against Dallas when the two teams first met in Week 14.
Point Projection: 8 points
