17. New Orleans Saints @ Minnesota
New Orleans allowed 17 points to the Tennessee Titans in Week 14, as they allowed that point total for the second straight week despite forcing only one turnover in that span. A favorable matchup is coming against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15, as quarterback Christian Ponder has turned the ball over eight times in the last two games and was benched in last week’s game. The Vikings are expected to get running back Adrian Peterson (ankle) back this week and the Saints’ defense will be challenged to stop him. The fantasy value of this unit is purely turnover-driven most of the time, and that is enough to make them a possible option for owners looking for a low-end starting option with some upside this week.
Bruno Boys Stars:***
18. San Diego Chargers vs. Baltimore
The Chargers held the Buffalo Bills to 10 points in Week 14, as they also had three interceptions and scored a defensive touchdown in the game. They have now allowed less than 20 points in three consecutive games, but a tough matchup is coming this week against the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are 13th in the NFL in rush offense (117.2 yards per game), as running back Ray Rice has 100-plus rushing yards in three of his last four games and at least 20 carries in all four contests. San Diego is just 23rd in the league against the run (128.9 yards per game), so they may struggle to keep the Ravens offense under wraps and that would also limit their chances for turnovers. Fantasy owners may be optimistic about this unit on the heels of the last three games, but there is too much downside here to make them a sure-fire start for this week.
Bruno Boys Stars:**
19. Cleveland Browns @ Arizona
Cleveland is 31st in the league against the run (150.9 yards per game), but they do have the league’s second-best pass defense (180.7 yards per game) heading into a matchup with the Arizona Cardinals in Week 15. Cardinals’ quarterback Kevin Kolb (concussion) was injured again last week, but John Skelton replaced him capably with three touchdown passes in the game. The bigger concern for the Browns should be containing running back Chris Wells, who is dealing with a knee injury but has taken advantage of favorable matchups virtually all season. There are worse matchups out there, but the Cleveland defense simply does not have a ton of upside this week. Fantasy owners should have no trouble finding a better option.
Bruno Boys Stars:**
20. New England Patriots @ Denver
The Patriots are last in the NFL in total defense (416 yards per game), with a matching ranking against the pass (308.7 yards per game) as well. They have not posted double-digit fantasy points outside of two straight weeks in Week 10-11, and now a tough matchup against the Denver Broncos is looming for Week 15. The Broncos have the league’s top rushing offense (156.2 yards per game) and quarterback Tim Tebow has topped 200 passing yards in two straight games and has maximized his opportunities through the air. Tebow has also only thrown two interceptions since taking over as the starter, so New England may not see many opportunities there. There is less downside than usual with this unit, but still more than enough to make the New England defense virtually unstartable for the majority of fantasy owners.
Bruno Boys Stars:**
21. Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Jets
Philadelphia had one of their best defensive performances of the season against the Miami Dolphins last week, as they allowed 10 points and 206 yards of offense. They also had nine sacks and forced three turnovers in the game, but a slightly more difficult matchup is coming against the New York Jets this week. The Jets’ offense has been rolling lately, with at least 28 points in three straight games, as quarterback Mark Sanchez has scored nine total touchdowns in the last three games and their running game has improved. The Eagles have struggled stopping the run at times this season, including allowed a 100-yard rusher in back-to-back games, so they may struggle to stop the Jets if they can’t force Sanchez to beat them through the air. Fantasy football owners can see some potential upside here, but the Eagles’ defense is a fairly risky option for Week 15.
Bruno Boys Stars:**
22. Buffalo Bills vs. Miami
The Bills allowed 30 offensive points and 366 offensive yards to the San Diego Chargers in Week 14, and they have now managed just one interception in their past five games. A favorable looking matchup is coming this week against the Miami Dolphins, who have fired head coach Tony Sparano and may have to turn to J.P. Losman under center with Matt Moore (concussion) injured. In the previous meeting of the two teams in Week 11, Miami scored 28 offensive points and Buffalo had just one sack in the game. Moore was healthy for that game, but regardless of his status fantasy owners should not have a ton of confidence in the Bills’ defense this week.
Bruno Boys Stars:**
23. St. Louis Rams vs. Cincinnati
The Rams allowed 23 offensive points and 359 yards of offense to the Seattle Seahawks last week, and they sit 25th or worse in the league in total defense (25th), against the run (32nd) and in scoring defense (25th) heading to this week against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals rank in the middle of the pack across the board offensively, but quarterback Andy Dalton has only thrown one interception in his last three games after throwing five in the two games prior to that. St. Louis has only forced one turnover over their past two games, so this Sunday does not look like a recipe for success if they continue to struggle stopping the run. There is no upside here for fantasy football owners, so this unit is to be avoided if at all possible.
Bruno Boys Stars:**
24. Denver Broncos vs. New England
The Broncos’ defense looked good again last week against the Chicago Bears, allowing just 10 points and less than 250 yards of offense while registering four sacks in the game. Week 15 brings a much more difficult matchup against the New England Patriots, who are second in the league in total offense and passing offense and also sit third in scoring offense (30.4 points per game). Despite their recent run of good performances, the Denver defense has only posted double-digit fantasy points three times in their past eight games. Given the tough matchup, fantasy owners need to find a better starting defense for Week 15.
Bruno Boys Stars:*
25. Oakland Raiders vs. Detroit
The Raiders got lit up by the Green Bay Packers in Week 14, to the tune of 40 offensive points and 391 yards as they also forced just one turnover. Week 15 will be a little bit easier against the Detroit Lions, but not that much since the Lions have the league’s 10th-ranked offense (376.2 yards per game, along with being fourth in scoring offense (28.2 points per game) and fifth in passing offense (275.7 yards per game). Lions’ quarterback Matt Stafford threw 10 interceptions over four games prior to last week, so there could be some opportunities for the Oakland secondary. That said, there is no good reason to consider starting this unit this or any other week at this stage of the season.
Bruno Boys Stars:*
26. Washington Redskins @ New York Giants
The Redskins allowed 34 points and 431 yard of offense to the New England Patriots last week, and they have allowed 34 points in two straight games now. Another big challenge is coming in Week 15 against the New York Giants, who have the league’s seventh-best offense (389.8 yards per game) and quarterback Eli Manning has thrown for 400 or more yards twice in his last three games. Adding to the downside is the fact Washington has only forced multiple turnovers in a game once in their past six games and have not posted double-digit fantasy points (ESPN scoring) since prior to their Week 5 bye. There is simply no reason to consider starting the Redskins’ defense this week.
Bruno Boys Stars:*
27. Jacksonville Jaguars @ Atlanta-
It may be surprising to find out the Jaguars enter Week 15 fifth in the NFL in total defense (307.4), and they also rank in the top half of the league against the pass (fifth) and in scoring defense (13th). They will find it difficult to replicate that success this week against the Atlanta Falcons, who have rank in the top half of the league in total offense (13th) passing offense (10th) and scoring offense (11th) and have plenty of skill position talent around quarterback Matt Ryan. The Jacksonville defense has been usable in favorable matchups this season, but this is clearly not one of those situations.
Bruno Boys Stars:*
28. Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee
Indianapolis is 28th in the league in total defense (384.8 yards per game) and they also rank last in scoring defense (29.4 points per game). They take on the Tennessee Titans, who are 19th in the league in total offense (323.5 yards per game), this week in what could be a favorable situation if the Colts were a more stellar defense. Even if Titans’ quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (calf) is unable to play, rookie Jake Locker should be a capable replacement and brings a little more to the table athletically than Hasselbeck. The Colts have forced multiple turnovers just once in their last 10 games, so fantasy football owners need to find a much better option for this week.
Bruno Boys Stars:*
29. Carolina Panthers @ Houston
The Panthers are 23rd in the league against run (128.9 yards per game) and 29th in scoring offense (27.3 points per game) heading into Week 15 against the Houston Texans, who have the league’s second-ranked rush offense (151.9 yards per game) and fifth-best scoring offense (25.4 points per game) despite being without wide receiver Andre Johnson for a big chunk of the season and being without quarterback Matt Schaub over the last few games. The Carolina defense has only posted double-digit fantasy points (ESPN scoring) once all season, and that came back in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Things will be a lot more challenging than that this week, so fantasy owners can continue to avoid this unit as they have all season to this point.
Bruno Boys Stars:*
30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Dallas
Tampa Bay allowed 28 offensive points to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14, and they now sit 29th in the NFL in total defense (388.5 yards per game) and second to last in scoring offense (28.5 points per game). A much tougher matchup is coming for Week 15 against the Dallas Cowboys, who are sixth in the league in total offense (390.1 yards per game) and rank in the top half of the league in pass offense (sixth), run offense (14th) and scoring offense (10th) as well. There is always the possibility of multiple mistakes from Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo, but that is not enough to make this unit appealing to fantasy football owners in Week 15.
Bruno Boys Stars:*
31. Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans
Minnesota allowed 20 offensive points and 280 yards of offense to the Detroit Lions last week, as they also had five sacks in the game. That said, they failed to force a turnover and have now not intercepted a pass since Week 5. That does not lend a lot of hope for this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints top-ranked offense (447.2 yards per game) and No. 1 pass offense (325.2 yards per game). Injuries and ineffective play in the secondary has been an issue for the Vikings, so the Saints should have no trouble moving the ball at will. Fantasy football owners have not found this unit usable most weeks this season, and this week is no different due to the extremely tough matchup.
Bruno Boys Stars:*
32. Kansas City Chiefs vs. Green Bay
The Chiefs allowed 35 offensive points to the New York Jets in Week 14, a clearly dismal performance after performing very well the previous two games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears. Week 15 brings an even tougher matchup against the Green Packers, who have the NFL’s top-scoring offense (35.8 points per game) and are also third in total offense (404.2 yards per game). The absence of wide receiver Greg Jennings (knee) certainly hurts the Packers’ offense, but they have plenty of other talent around quarterback Aaron Rodgers and there is no reason they should not remain an elite offense. The Kansas City defense has little hope for any sort of good performance this week, and fantasy owners should continue to avoid them as they have most of the season.
