17. San Francisco 49ers — Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas

If Haden or Thomas fall here, the 49ers improve their secondary with one of them. Kindle is a strong pass rusher who showed up in big games for Texas, and will provide a solid edge rusher for the 3-4 defensive scheme of the 49ers.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers — Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho

Iupati is the best offensive guard in the 2010 NFL Draft and there is some talk that the Steelers are trying to go back to their run-heavy ways. Iupati’s toughness and competitiveness will fit in perfectly with the Steel City mentality.

19. Atlanta Falcons — Everson Griffen, DE, USC

Even though Griffen was known for taking some plays off at USC, when he was on, he was nearly unstoppable. It seems like he has fixed some of his flaws and the Falcons could be getting a steal at No.19.

20. Houston Texans — Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State

With the loss of cornerback Dunta Robinson comes the addition of the second best defensive back on the board, Kyle Wilson. He helped his draft stock with strong showings at the Senior Bowl and the Scouting Combine, and should fill the starting spot immediately for the Texans.

21. Cincinnati Bengals — Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois

The Antonio Bryant and Matt Jones signings shouldn’t take away from the Bengals need for a young playmaker. Benn displays a lot of talent and his sure hands will gladly be accepted by Carson Palmer.

22. New England Patriots — Brandon Graham, DE/OLB, Michigan

If he is available at No.22, there is no way that the Patriots pass up on him. He has the numbers, size and speed to be successful in the NFL, and will be a great pick if he’s still there.

23. Green Bay Packers — Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers

Davis was one of the front-runners early on as the best offensive tackle available, but character concerns have since made this talented tackle drop to No.23. The Packers are in dire need of offensive line help to keep quarterback Aaron Rodgers upright, and Davis can provide instant assistance.

24. Philadelphia Eagles — Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida

Dunlap may be a stretch here, but the Eagles are in desperate need of an end opposite Trent Cole. He is athletic enough to get around athletic tackles and could make an immediate impact in Philly.

25. Baltimore Ravens — Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma

This is a pretty unanimous pick at this point. Gresham is the best tight end available and it gives quarterback Joe Flacco another target with Anquan Boldin already on board.

26. Arizona Cardinals — Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee

Many projections have him going earlier, but many of the teams drafting before Arizona are not in need of a potential nose tackle. He would be a steal at No.26, and provides valuable depth to an aging line.

27. Dallas Cowboys — Maurkice Pouncey, G/C, Florida

With the top six offensive linemen off the board, the Cowboys go with Pouncey who is a versatile lineman and can be successful at the guard or center positions. The Dallas fans might not like this pick, but Tony Romo and the run game will.

28. San Diego Chargers — Jahvid Best, RB, California

Barring injury, Best could be the “best” running back in this draft class. The Chargers are in need of a talented running back and Best fits that perfectly. We thought about plugging in Ryan Matthews (RB - Fresno State) here, but outside of a good combine he hasn’t proved much against quality competition.

29. New York Jets — Taylor Mays, S, USC

Mays is perhaps the best athlete in this entire draft (we’re willing to argue Bruce Campbell as well). If anyone can turn this hitting safety in a linebackers body into a star, it’s probably Rex Ryan and his defensive scheme.

30. Minnesota Vikings — Brian Price, DT, UCLA

Minnesota is one of the few teams in the NFL that is solid at every position; however, Price can provide valuable protection and youth to an older defensive line.

31. Indianapolis Colts — Charles Brown, OT, USC

It wouldn’t surprise if they go defensive line here either, but Brown grades out pretty highly here and the Colts definitely need another offensive lineman. Scouts believe he could undoubtedly be a starting left tackle in the NFL, and with Peyton Manning at quarterback is a great place to get him prepared.

32. New Orleans Saints — Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri

If Weatherspoon drops this far after his great Senior Bowl, he could jump right into a great situation. The Saints need a fast, young linebacker and Weatherspoon is a perfect complement to their ball-hawking defense.

2010 NFL Mock Draft Round 1 Commentary: Overall, this draft is filled with stud offensive linemen, and we feel eight go off the board in the first round. As we mentioned before, this first round is all about the trenches. Nine defensive linemen were also taken in Round 1, running the total to 17 OL/DL players in the first round. When that happens, skill players will lack in Round 1, with only game breaking players such as Dez Bryant, C.J. Spiller, and Arrelious Benn making the cut.

In the end, there aren’t too many huge surprises in the first round. None of the teams are reaching for the players they are drafting, while it may not be sexiest first round in NFL history, it is a “changing of the guard” in reference to the OL/DL picks.
