Consisting of 10 members of the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Staff, along with guest columnist’s from Fighting Chance Fantasy and The IDP Guru, our first of many Fantasy Football 2010 Mock Draft was a 16-round affair based on a standard scoring league (Pass TDs - 4 points, All Other TDs - 6 points, 25 Yards Passing - 1 point, 10 Yards Rushing/Receiving - 1 point). Outside of having to field a starting line-up occupied by 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 D, owners were free to compile their rosters any way in which they pleased.

All commentary after each pick is provided by the Bruno Boys staff member who made that pick. The draft started on February 15, 2010 and we will report round-by-round updates as they are available. Make sure to check back for more commentary on our Fantasy Football 2010 Mock Draft.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 15 RESULTS

15.01: Bruno Boys Matt - Johnny Knox (Chi) — I drafted Knox simply for upside and depth at WR. With Aroshamadu’s emergence and the presence of Devin Hester, Knox is the forgotten WR in the Bears’ offense. He is very talented and has incredible physical skills. A boom or bust play that will provide depth regardless.

15.02: Bruno Boys Larry - Chase Coffman (Cin) — This pick is simply a late round stab in the dark. Coffman didn’t see the field during his rookie season in 2009 due to an ankle injury, but he has a lot of upside. He was the 2008 John Mackey Award winner for college football’s best tight end, and he was a consensus first team All-American out of the University of Missouri. Yes this is a risky pick, but this late in the draft I was looking for upside and Coffman has that. With Heath Miller already on my roster Coffman is strictly a backup anyway, so there’s no harm in taking a chance here.

15.03: Bruno Boys Whooley - Kevin Boss (NYG) — While I have faith Owen Daniels will be good to go come Week 1 of the 2010 season, torn ACLs are no joke, meaning its imperative I have a back-up plan. That plan is Kevin Boss. Boss didn’t quite materialize into the top-tier tight end many thought he’d become as a result of the departures of Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer prior to 2009. But, he was still solid with 567 yards and 5 TDs, numbers that make him worthy to be my TE2.

15.04: Bruno Boys Hallam - Indianapolis Colts D/ST (Ind) — The Colts defense isn’t the stout unit that it used to be, and without oft injured Bob Sanders they are certainly a different unit.  But with defensive ends like Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, you can usually count on them for a handful of sacks each week. They also get to play four games per year against offensively challenged teams in Jacksonville and Tennessee in their divisions. Hopefully, they will be playing one of those teams the week that I need them.

15.05: Bruno Boys Jacob - Garrett Hartley (NO) — Hartley or Crosby is the pick here. Both play for amazing offenses that could potentially average 30 points per game in 2010. Hartley was pretty clutch in the playoffs, so he gets the nod, but with kickers being such an unknown, I wouldn’t have minded Crosby either.

15.06: Bruno Boys Jimbo - David Akers (Phi) — Feeling confident with the rest of my roster, I felt it was best to get my hands on one of the best kickers in the NFL and Akers is that guy. He converted on at least one field goal in all but one game last season, and with Philadelphia having one of the best offenses in the NFL, he should continue to produce in 2010.

15.07: Bruno Boys Allie - Nate Kaeding (SD) — Sure he choked “big time,” missing three field goals in the Divisional playoff game against the Jets; however, Kaeding was the top fantasy kicker in 2009 – connecting on 32 field goals including nine that were over 40 yards and 50 extra points. With the Chargers having one of the highest scoring offenses in the league and his solid track record over six regular seasons, there’s every reason to expect big things from Kaeding in 2010.

15.08: Bruno Boys Cory - Mason Crosby (GB) — With just a few picks left, I decided to go ahead and pick my kicker. I’m not one of those people who feels you must wait until the last round to select a kicker, and by doing so I get to choose from the best. I decided to go with Mason Crosby of the Green Bay Packers. Not only is he a really good kicker, but he’s playing behind one of the best offenses in the league, so the points will come early and often.

15.09: Bruno Boys Kyle - Devery Henderson (NO) — There were any number of ways I could have gone with this pick, but since I absolutely, under any circumstances, refuse to take a kicker until the last round, getting Henderson here as an occasional play is a nice value.

15.10: Bruno Boys IDP Guru - Jason Campbell (Was) — I like Campbell. I think he can become a solid NFL QB, and I’m hoping Shanahan agrees with me and decides not to take a QB with the team’s 1st round draft pick. Campbell threw for over 3,600 yards and had a respectable 1.33 TD:INT ratio considering he had to play with one of the worst offensive lines in the league. If the Redskins draft an offensive lineman with their 1st round pick, and Shanahan gives Campbell some weapons, he could be a very solid fantasy QB.

15.11: Bruno Boys Greg - Cincinnati Bengals D/ST (Cin) — The one thing about defenses this past season was that you could play the match-ups every week due to some really bad offenses. Therefore, I refuse to reach for a defense any earlier and will wait until the last rounds as I did here. I may be able to find a decent one and if not, I will again play the match-ups like I did in 2009. Believe it or not, the Bengals’ defense was actually very good in 2009, and since they did not lose any key pieces (plus they will likely add to the unit in the draft), I see a repeat performance out of Cincinnati’s defense in 2010.

15.12: Bruno Boys Cavigs - New York Giants D/ST (NYG) — Last season, the New York Giants got off to a 5-0 start and the play of their D/ST was a large part of their success. During that stretch, New York allowed just 14.2 points per games, forced 11 turnovers and scored two defensive touchdowns. However, injuries and inconsistent play led to their downfall, and by season’s end the Giants had finished with one of the worst defenses in the NFL. New York has already filled a huge hole by signing safety Antrel Rolle, and if they can stay healthy, while getting some veteran leadership, expect the G-Men to be a top 10 defensive unit in 2010.

Round 15 Commentary from Bruno Boys Whooley: You know the draft is beginning to wind down when kickers come flying off the board, which is exactly what happens here in Round 15. With this in mind, I’d like to elaborate on something stated by Bruno Boys Cory in his commentary following his Mason Crosby pick - “I’m not one of those people who feels you must wait until the last round to select a kicker, and by doing so I get to choose from the best.”

Traditionalist in the world of fantasy football often suggest you wait until absolutely necessary to grab your fantasy kicker. Heck, some even advocate you wait until after the draft is over and done with, just prior to Week 1’s kickoff. But, with the majority of fantasy football owners adhering to this philosophy, why not take advantage? Yes, I know kickers are a crap shoot, but just like with everything else you gamble on, the odds of some performing well is definitely better than others. So, why not jump on a guy like Nate Kaeding or David Akers one round earlier than normal? After all, the 9+ fantasy points they tallied per game in 2009 definitely would have helped your squad in one week or another.
