For the third straight season we are hosting the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Experts League, which includes 12 of the best fantasy football minds in the industry.  Our goal by posting round-by-round draft results is to help you get a better idea of how some players are valued among the industry. Plus, it should help you identify trends, gauge Average Draft Position (ADP) and find a few sleepers along the way. The draft started on August 7,2010 and will consist of 16 rounds. Each team is required to start QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, K, DEF in standard scoring (non-PPR) format. The Bruno Boys are represented by Bruno Boys Cavigs

Now, let jump right into the ROUND 1 results of the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Experts League Draft hosted by MyFantasyLeague.com.

Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Pick: Drafting No.1 overall there isn’t much strategy that goes into your Round 1 pick. You take who you feel is the best player on the board and that is what I did when selecting Adrian Peterson. The continued talk about the future of Brett Favre does not scare me. If for some reason Favre does decide to retire, remember that Peterson runs behind a great offensive line and still had 1,757 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 2008, without Favre. While Chris Johnson grades out No.1 among our staff in our Consensus Top 150 Rankings, it’s Peterson that is atop my big board. He has three straight years of double-digit touchdowns and hasn’t reached his ceiling. Expect big things from All Day in 2010.

Man, I wish I got to play with guys that took Mendenhall at pick 7!

I agree with the AP pick. He is the safest of the bunch and his production is always good and consistent.

May I ask what format this leagues is? I can’t believe Rodgers is going in the first and Brees and Manning shortly after. It seems that’s way too early for all of them. I’m assuming it’s a 6point per passing TD league.

Squish,

Mendy at No.7 isn’t all that bad of a pick. I probably would have gone SJAX there; however, it all boils down to preference and I am not convinced that SJAX will substantially outscore Mendy in 2010. Both are solid players… though SJAX is the safer choice (as is Andre).

This is a four point per passing touchdown league and is comprised of some of the best and most credible experts (and websites) in the industry.  It has been one competitive draft and if you “like” a player you need to snag him early or else he will never get back to you (as you will see in later rounds).

I suppose that Mendenhall was the next best Rb pick but I just don’t see any value in taking him there. On the other hand from what I’ve seen, most experts still try to grab an RB no matter what in the first round. Your draft clearly shows this as it is extremely RB heavy. At least 6 of the RBs taken in the first 3 rounds were taken 5+ picks ahead of their ADP. The WRs on the other hand are going way after their ADP (despite it being a 3WR league) with the QBs going way before again.

It would appear that some guys are all grabbing their favorites for the year while ignoring pick value altogether. The experts always seem to do that though so I guess this isn’t weird. I just always wonder why you guys seem to center so much around your own personal projections. I’ve seen the results of so many expert leagues and it’s entirely determined by whether or not your projections panned out. I find it much better to just try and win regardless of what your projections are. If some of those guys just took some safe picks, instead of constantly reaching, it would help their chances of winning.

To be fair, I think your picks are just fine and I’d have done exactly the same but I see the same guys from a lot of the other sites going down with their projections every year. I mean hell, after looking at the expert drafts from last year, in a few leagues as many as 5 teams ruined their chances of winning the league on draft day by reaching for too many RBs early. If it was me, I wouldn’t want to risk ruining my team right off the bat on day one by taken so many risks. It amounts to a different version of grabbing the guys from the team you like. Why not just play the safe picks and give yourself a chance?
