Three of the bottom four teams in the league in pass defense are on bye this week, but that’s not the only reason things will get pretty interesting for fantasy owners. Because for the next three weeks, six teams per week have byes. In week 10, only the Giants and Houston have a bye, and then that’s it for teams receiving a week off. But in the meantime, there should be plenty of waiver wire action, so we’re here to help you put together the best lineup possible.
1. Randy Moss (New England Patriots) @ Tampa Bay *At Wembley Stadium - London*
Moss caught eight passes for 129 yards and three touchdowns – in the snow – against what was supposedly the Tennessee Titans last week. That was nice to see, but what would be nicer is some more consistency from Mr. Moss, who has been up-and-down this season. He should have another outstanding day against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have allowed 13 passing touchdowns this season, which is 30th in the NFL.

Just when Miles Austin goes otherworldly on us, fantasy owners won’t be able to employ him in their lineups, as the Dallas Cowboys have a bye this week. That said, the wide receiver position is gaining a lot more this week from teams who are back from their byes than they’re losing due to week 6’s byes. Really, the only stalwart that will not be available to fantasy owners this week is Reggie Wayne, as the Colts join the Cowboys, Dolphins and 49ers as teams who won’t suit up this weekend. To see where your wide receivers rank, check out the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 6 Wide Receiver Rankings.
1. Randy Moss (New England Patriots) vs. Tennessee
Despite the fact Tom Brady hasn’t look completely comfortable through the first third of the season, and in fact missed a W-I-D-E open Moss for what would have been a long touchdown in the Patriots’ loss to the Broncos last week, there’s too much to like about this match-up to put anybody else at the top spot. The Titans are 31st – or second to last – in both passing yards allowed per game and passing touchdowns allowed.

It’s another week of NFL action, which means it’s another ranking of wide receivers for you fantasy football enthusiasts to feast your eyes on. It was tough for some fantasy owners who were dealing with a bye week that saw players like Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Smith sitting it out, but it doesn’t get any better this week. It fact, it may even be worse. With Chicago, Green Bay, New Orleans and San Diego all out of the mix, you’ll be facing a week without the likes of Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Vincent Jackson and the treasure trove of Saints wideouts. With that in mind it’s time to check out our Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 5 Wide Receiver Rankings to find the perfect bye week plug in.
1. Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis Colts) @ Tennessee
The Titans have given up a minimum of 90 yards and a touchdown to at least one wide receiver in every game this season, are tied for dead-last in passing defense, and are second-to-last in passing scores allowed. Wayne is second in the NFL in both receiving yards and touchdown catches, so we’d say this is a fairly decent match-up for him.
Point Projection: 17 points
2. Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Houston
Fitzgerald returns after the Cardinals’ bye week having been something of a disappointment after only one game with double-digit fantasy football points (in traditional scoring formats). The University of Pittsburgh product is simply too good for that to continue, as is his streak of three straight games of fewer than 80 receiving yards. That all changes this week.

There is a lot of star power missing from this week’s rankings, as the bye weeks officially begin. Members of the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and Philadelphia Eagles get to relax in front of their TVs this Sunday, so fantasy owners will have to do without the likes of Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, Roddy White, Steve Smith, and DeSean Jackson. Hopefully, the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 4 Wide Receiver Rankings will help you decide on a suitable replacement.
1. Randy Moss (New England Patriots) vs. Baltimore
Moss leads the NFL with his 26 catches, and is fifth with 281 receiving yards. His 10 receptions last week were the second time this season he’s accumulated at least that many. This week he faces a Baltimore pass defense that is struggling somewhat, at least compared to what we’re all used to seeing. They are coming into this one 17th in the league in pass defense and have allowed four players to gain at least 70 receiving yards this year.
Point Projection: 19 points
2. Andre Johnson (Houston Texans) vs. Oakland
Oakland is a respectable 14th in the NFL in pass defense, but shouldn’t be able to slow Johnson, who is coming off a game where he had four catches for 84 yards. The Raiders have had trouble with bigger receivers in each of their first three games - Vincent Jackson had five catches for 56 yards and a score in Week 1, Dwayne Bowe put up identical numbers in Week 2, and last week Brandon Marshall had five receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown.

It’s already Week 3 of the NFL season, and fantasy owners have begun to take joy in their newest weapons at receiver (Johnny Knox) or are downright melancholy at players not fulfilling expectations (Eddie Royal). But is it to early On that note, let’s examine the week ahead for the wide receivers.
1. Andre Johnson (Houston Texans) vs. Jacksonville
Predictably, Johnson exploded this week like a watermelon in one of Gallagher’s comedy acts (as an aside, how was that ever funny?) with 10 catches for 149 yards and two scores against the pliable Tennessee pass defense. This week, he faces a familiar foe in AFC South counterpart Jacksonville. The Jags have faced two good passing teams in Indianapolis and Arizona, and have not been successful in stopping them, ranking 26th in pass defense.
Point Projection: 20 points
2. Marques Colston (New Orleans Saints) @ Buffalo
In two games, the Bills have allowed five receivers to accumulate at least 75 receiving yards against them. Colston will likely make that six. The Bills are 31st against the pass, and rank 26th in touchdown passes allowed. Colston already has three touchdown catches, and he’ll be a tough match-up for the smallish Bills corners.

If week 1 reaffirmed anything about the wide receiver position, it was the idea that out of all the fantasy positions wide receivers are the hardest to predict. Sure, some big names like Reggie Wayne and Randy Moss rose to the occasion in week 1, but others like Andre Johnson and Terrell Owens came up short. Meanwhile, fantasy owners are feverishly trying to learn everything they can about guys like Oakland Raider rookie wide receiver, Louis Murphy.
Luckily, for Bruno Boys Nation, the Bruno Boys are here to make your decision in regards to the wide receiver position a bit easier with the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 2 Rankings.
1. Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals) @ Jacksonville
Despite Arizona’s relative struggle to throw the ball against the 49ers in Week 1, Fitzgerald put up respectable numbers with six catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. The team is still transitioning from the play-calling of offensive coordinator Todd Haley last year to head coach Ken Whisenhunt this season, so look for them to be more in sync this week.
Point Projection: 18 points
2. Randy Moss (New England Patriots) @ New York Jets
The Jets did an outstanding job shutting down Andre Johnson in their Week 1 win over Houston, but Tom Brady is no Matt Schaub. Moss lit up the Bills with 12 catches for 141 yards in their come-from-behind win on Monday Night Football, and though The Freak didn’t haul in a touchdown pass, that’ll change this week.

Leaping acrobatic catches, deep bombs landing gracefully in the arms of a receiver as he stays in stride, one handed grabs…these are a few of my favorite things. And, it’s why Week 1 of the NFL season can’t come quick enough. At this point and time the wide receiving landscape is perfectly even. No receptions have been made. No yards racked up, and no end zone dances danced. Everyone has a clean slate. So who will rise to the top after Week 1. Will it be a familiar name like Larry Fitzgerald or Randy Moss, or will all fantasy football owners be scrambling for the no-name wide receiver, who racked up 100 yards and a score come Monday?

Unlike running backs, wide receivers tend to have a much longer shelf life which makes them very keeper friendly in the fantasy football world. Getting 1-2 young elite wide outs on your roster can solidify your team’s strength year after year. And, while youth is always a great commodity in keepers, veteran wide outs are still extremely valuable. This is especially true since the receiver position is one of the hardest to learn and most wide outs take 2-3 years to fully acclimate to the NFL game. So, if you’re eying that shiny rookie wide out who is going to be the next great thing, it’s always good to snag some proven guys to balance out your roster. That being said, here are my (Bruno Boys Dominic) Top-30 Keeper League WRs.
1. Larry Fitzgerald (ARI) – Age 25
Meet the new crown jewel of wide receivers. There is no questioning his talent, determination or character. He’s a team guy, loves the game and has put up double digit TDs and over 1400 yards for the past 2 seasons. The only thing that raises concern is whether or not Matt Leinart (or whomever Warner’s successor will be) can get him the ball. The good news is, no matter who it ends up being, Fitzgerald should automatically make them better.
2. Andre Johnson (HOU) – Age 28
The only thing keeping him from the #1 spot is the fact that he is 3 years older than Fitzgerald and has not caught as many TDs. The latter should soon change though. He’s on a young talented offense and has a QB with top five potential throwing him the ball. He’ll make a strong case for that number one spot by the end of the season.

A youth movement is occurring at the wide receiver position. In fact, the position has become so dominated by the young guns that seven of the top-10 fantasy football wide receivers from 2008 have yet to hit the big 3-0 (Steve Smith, Terrell Owens, and Randy Moss were the exceptions). As such, you’ll notice a changing of the guard some-what in his year’s wide receiver rankings, with Leapin’ Larry Fitzgerald leaping all the way to the top, followed closely by Houston Texans’ stud, Andre Johnson, while former stud Chad Ochocinco falls out of the top-20 and old reliable, Torry Holt, plummets out of the top-30. TIER 1
1. Larry Fitzgerald – Arizona Cardinals (Bye: 4)
It would have been intriguing to go inside the mind of Fitzgerald as he was in the midst of outrunning every Pittsburgh Steelers defender to the end zone during his 64-yard touchdown reception in the Super Bowl last season, if only to find out if he was thinking of all the people who have criticized his speed in the past. Rest assured that those critics are silent now. Last season Fitzgerald caught 96 passes and set career-highs in receiving yards (1,431) and touchdown receptions (12). He’s been a model of consistency throughout his five-year career, and has caught at least eight touchdown passes in every season that he’s played a minimum of 15 games.
