After some week 1 performances that may have you wondering: “Who will be next to put up the monster game like Drew Brees and Adrian Peterson did?” We can say with the utmost confidence that the players listed below will not be the ones to do so in week 2 as these are your weekly Fantasy Football Week 2 Sit Ems!
QUARTERBACKS – SIT ‘EM
Jay Cutler (Chicago Bears) vs. Pittsburgh
After week 1, you may be kicking yourself for drafting Cutler. He looked out of sync with the offense all game with a 1:4 TD to INT ratio. His receivers are obviously not what they were in Denver last season, and he must learn to rely on RB Matt Forte for dump off passes to move the chains. While he probably won’t be throwing 4 interceptions again this week, Pittsburgh is a tenacious defensive team that will look to shut down the Bears offense in this week 2 match-up. If you’re looking for a week for Cutler to be his usual gunslinger self, wait until at least week 3 @ Seattle (which still isn’t a great match-up).

QUARTERBACKS – START ‘EM
Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers) @ Chicago
Roethlisberger had a field day in Week 1 (363 yds, TD, 2 INT), and with what looked like a declining run game (36 rushing yards), expect Roethlisberger to drop back at least 30 times. The Bears defense looked good against up-and-coming stud Aaron Rodgers, but it seemed like Rodgers was out of sync for the majority of the football game. However, the Steelers passing offense was clicking on all cylinders in the opener and it would come of no surprise to get 250 yards and 2 TDs out of the big QB from the Steel City.

QUARTERBACKS – START ‘EM
Shaun Hill (San Francisco 49ers) @ Arizona
The 49ers figure to run the ball down Arizona’s throat in this match-up, but it doesn’t mean that Shaun Hill can’t have a solid game as well. Their run first mentality figures to open up play action passes throughout the game, which Hill should capitalize on thanks to the great rapport he established with wide receivers Josh Morgan and Isaac Bruce in 2008. While Hill was just average in their match-up last year (217 Passing Yards, 2 TD, 2 INT), a cut down on the interceptions would make him a sneaky fantasy pick for week 1.

Sitting your studs is typically the most difficult decision you will encounter in fantasy football each week. When your top overall pick is playing a tough defense like the Pittsburgh Steelers, it takes some serious guts to sit them for lesser talented players, but it can be that foresight that will lead to fantasy football championships. No we aren’t suggesting you bench your studs in Week 1, but we do recommend you check out the Fantasy Football Week 1 Sit Ems for players to think twice about before plugging them into your opening day lineup.
QUARTERBACKS – SIT ‘EM
Jake Delhomme (Carolina Panthers) vs. Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Eagles were a very good defense in 2008, and even with the losses of Brian Dawkins and Lito Sheppard they figure to be once again in the top-10. It seems as if the Panthers best shot at winning will be to run the ball with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart with only small doses of Delhomme. Keep this in mind, and comfortably sit Delhomme in Week 1 because quite frankly he hasn’t produce at a high enough level to be fantasy relevant in some time.
