2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet
2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet
Fleaflicker NFL Fantasy Football

Consisting of nine members of the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Staff, along with guest columnist, Ryan Hallam, from Fighting Chance Fantasy, the Bruno Boys Mock Draft was a 14-round affair based on a standard scoring league (Pass TDs - 4 points, All Other TDs - 6 points). Outside of having to field a starting line-up occupied by 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 D, owners were free to compile their rosters any way in which they pleased. All commentary after each pick is provided by the Bruno Boys staff member who made the pick. The draft was conducted over email and took place from July 13, 2009 to August 3, 2009.

You can probably guess who went No. 1, but check out the results below to see who placed where in the remaining 139 selections.

ROUND 1 RESULTS

1.01: Dominic Brown -  Adrian Peterson (Min) - If only all life’s choices were this easy. Peterson is aiming for 2,000 yards this season and I’m betting he makes it!

1.02: Greg Warnock -  Michael Turner (Atl) - Despite all the MJD hype, I still feel there are two possible choices for the top pick in Turner and Peterson. Being at No. 2, you can sit and take the one who doesn’t go No. 1. Regardless of what others think, I feel Turner is set to duplicate, or exceed his numbers of a year ago.

For all you PPR fantasy football fans out there, Bruno Boys’ Jimbo recently conducted a one-man, 12-team PPR mock draft. Outside of the league rewarding 1 point-per-reception the rest of the scoring settings are standard format. Below is round two. Click here for round one, and stay tuned for round three next week…

2.01: RB DeAngleo Williams (CAR) – Last season’s fantasy football gem should produce nicely once again this season. The only reason why I don’t have DeAngelo Williams in the first round is because Jonathan Stewart will see a lot of the action in the backfield.

2.02: QB Drew Brees (NO) – Even when his receivers were dropping like flies due to injury last year, Brees found a way to be the best fantasy QB in the league last year. With Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey back healthy, along with Lance Moore, seeing totals close to last season are not out of the question.

1.01: RB Maurice Jones-Drew (JAX) – Last season Jones-Drew finished second in the league at the running back position in receptions with 62 and third in targets with 76, and that was when Fred Taylor was still in the picture. Now that he is without a doubt the main man in the backfield for the Jacksonville Jaguars, MJD should see all kinds of carries and receptions in 2009.

1.02: RB Matt Forte (CHI) – He was his team’s leading receiver, and led all RBs with 63 receptions. Matt Forte was a one-man show last year in Chicago. Having a better QB should only help him produce more.

Recently I, Dominic Brown, had the privilege to represent Bruno Boys in an expert mock draft hosted by Fantasy Football Writers With Hair. The draft consisted of nine other fantasy football websites and publications. The league was standard scoring with a starting roster of 1QB, 2 RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1 DEF, 1 K and 1 FLEX. Once we got into a draft room with everyone present (third times a charm), the 16 rounds flew by. The Bruno Boys ended up with the 3rd pick and witnessed this year’s fantasy trends unfold while following a few of my own.

Here is a breakdown of Rounds 9-16 of my picks in each round and an explanation for each pick.

9:03 Anthony Gonzalez (IND) - Getting Gonzalez in the 9th is a perfect example of a value pick. With Harrison gone and a healthy Manning back at the helm, this could be Gonzalez’s break out year. He’s on a dynamic offense and I expect Manning to be looking his way often as Reggie Wayne faces multiple defenders. There’s no reason why Gonzalez shouldn’t be able to double his 664 yards and 4tds from last year. And the fact that he’s my 4th receiver bodes pretty well for my depth at this position.

1:03 Michael Turner (ATL) - I really didn’t expect Turner to be available with this pick. But when the team before me drafted Chris Johnson at #2, I was able to grab what some experts believe is the top overall pick. He may not get as many carries as last year, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Keeping him fresh and healthy gives Turner a better chance to meet or exceed the 1699 yards and 17 tds from last season. And while the off-season addition of Tony Gonzalez alludes to the team’s desire to increase the passing game, Gonzalez is still one of the best blocking tight ends in the league and the Falcons should still remain a run first offense.  My only real concerns about Turner are injuries and the Falcons tough schedule but he is still a great pick at this spot.

ROUND 3 MOCK DRAFT RESULTS

3.01 RB Ryan Grant (GB) – Grant didn’t have as good of a year last year as he did in 2007, but the fact that he’s still the featured back without a true handcuff gives him good fantasy value. If the Green Bay Packers’ passing game is strong again this year, Grant should have some room to run.

Welcome back to the second round of my one-man mock draft. The second round sometimes can be a challenging one because, based on whom you selected with your first-round pick, you have to decide if you want an elite RB, WR or QB. By the time you get to your third-round pick,
the best of the best in those positions may all be taken. Hopefully this mock draft helps give you a hand in your draft strategy.

It’s never too early to participate in some fantasy football mock drafts. If you’re serious about being a contender to win your league’s title, you should partake in a few mock drafts before your actual draft. Bruno Boys Jimbo recently conducted his own one-man mock draft and each week he’ll post a round from the draft.

To conduct this fantasy football mock draft the following criteria was used: 10-team league, standard scoring (4 points for QB TDs, 6 points for all other TDs, 1 point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards, 1 for every 25 passing yards, -2 points for all turnovers, 1 point for sacks, 2 points for INTs.)

ROUND 1 MOCK DRAFT RESULTS

1.01: RB Adrian Peterson (Min) - The likely acquisition of Brett Favre makes AP a stone-cold lock to be the first overall pick in all drafts. Even if Favre doesn’t sign, he’s still the top choice.

1.02: RB Matt Forte (Chi) - The Chicago Bears’ offense goes where Matt Forte goes. With Jay Cutler now at QB, it should keep defenses honest enough to let Forte have similar success as his breakout rookie campaign

1.03: RB Maurice Jones-Drew (JAX) - MJD is in a similar situation as Forte. With the departure of Fred Taylor, MJD is the cornerstone of this offense and should see plenty of carries and receptions.

1.04: RB Michael Turner (ATL) - Turner the Burner doesn’t look to slow down in ’09. The potent passing attack should keep defenses spread out, and while Turner isn’t likely to duplicate his 2008 totals, he’s still in line for a great season.
