::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF FEBRUARY 2, 2012::

The Super Bowl features one of the best fantasy kickers (at least during the regular season) in New England’s Stephen Gostkowski, against one of the worst in New York’s Lawrence Tynes. Each has been fairly successful in the postseason however, with Gostkowski averaging 10 fantasy points per game and Tynes averaging 8.3. We anticipate both kickers getting past those numbers in the Super Bowl, so let’s take a look at our two-man rankings.

Standard Scoring

17-39 Yard Field Goal: 3 points  |  40-49 Yard Field Goal: 4 points
50-plus Yard Field Goal: 5 points  |  Extra Point: 1 point

::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF JANUARY 20, 2012::

The four kickers remaining for fantasy owners to choose from each had good games in the divisional round of the playoffs. They went a combined 9-for-10 in field goal tries, with the lone miss coming from a blocked Lawrence Tynes attempt. It helped that seven of the kicks were from inside 40 yards, though that did cost fantasy owners a few points. We should see kickers have an impact again this week, so let’s take a look at what’s in store.

::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF JANUARY 13, 2012::

Last weekend’s Wild Card games featured a somewhat impuissant collection of fantasy kickers, though that fit perfectly in a slate of games that were – with one exception – pretty mundane. This weekend promises to be different in at least one aspect, because even though it’s impossible to tell how the games will shake out, we do know that the kickers will be of a higher caliber. The Divisional games feature five of the top seven fantasy scorers from this season, with numbers one and two – David Akers and John Kasay, respectively – facing off in San Francisco. Let’s take a look now to see how that pair matches up with the rest of the kickers this week.

Standard Scoring

17-39 Yard Field Goal: 3 points  |  40-49 Yard Field Goal: 4 points
50-plus Yard Field Goal: 5 points  |  Extra Point: 1 point

::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF JANUARY 6, 2012::

As usual, the final scoring margin for fantasy kickers was close. Just 38 points separated the league’s second-highest scoring kicker (John Kasay) from the 20th-highest scoring kicker (Olindo Mare). That may sound like a lot, but it comes out to an average of just 2.4 points per game, and is the reason why kickers should never be drafted until the last round. When you look, for example, the running back position, the was a 124 point difference between the second-highest scoring player at that position (Adrian Peterson) and the 20th-highest scoring player (Ahmad Bradshaw). That’s a difference of 7.8 points per game. Even David Akers, who was far and away the top-scorer at the kicker position, had fewer than five points per game more than Mare.

So the lesson here, in case you still haven’t learned it – kickers are a dime a dozen, and not much separates them on a weekly basis. Yet Bruno Boys Fantasy Football is a full-service site that leaves no stone unturned, so here are the kicker rankings for this week’s playoff games.

::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF DECEMBER 29, 2011::

Week 16 was another productive one for fantasy kickers around the league. Graham Gano led the position with 17 fantasy points, and he was one of 14 kickers who amassed double-digit points during the week’s slate of games. San Francisco’s David Akers was tied for second during the week with 15 fantasy points; he leads all kickers in fantasy scoring, and should end the season at the top spot considering he is 25 points ahead of Dallas rookie Dan Bailey, who managed just one point last week.

There are plenty of quality match-ups in Week 17 for fantasy football kickers, so let’s take a look at how the position will fare in the final week of the regular season.

::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF DECEMBER 23, 2011::

Fantasy football never ceases to be surprising. For evidence of that, just take a look at what happened with kickers during Week 15. Each of the top three fantasy-point earners during the week were in the bottom half of the year’s scoring leaders before the week. Ryan Succop, Dan Carpenter, and Graham Gano led the way in scoring for the week, with 14, 12, and 12 points, respectively. Meanwhile, two of the top five kickers before the week, Mason Crosby and Robbie Gould, managed a total of three fantasy points combined.

We’re not going to bore you with any references to boxes of chocolate, but you get the picture. Hopefully, a bit of normalcy prevails this week, with loads of intriguing divisional contests at our fingertips in in a crucial week for fantasy football owners. Let’s move on to our rankings to try and make sense of all this.

::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF DECEMBER 15, 2011::

Week 14 was a very good week for fantasy kickers, as he we saw nine players post 10 or more points (ESPN scoring) and three guys (Mason Crosby, David Akers, Mike Nugent) make four field goals in their game. This week brings a few favorable matchups for the top kickers that owners have relied upon this season.

Now is clearly not the time for fantasy football owners to get too cute when it comes to their starting kicker, but there does seem to be a significant line between the top options and the options that are not good this week. So go ahead and take a look at our Fantasy Football Week 15 Kicker Rankings to see where your starting kicker sits and see if an upgrade is needed for this critical week.

::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF DECEMBER 10, 2011::

Last week’s slate of NFL contests was interesting, to say the least, at the fantasy football kicker position. Connor Barth led the position with 18 fantasy points despite the fact his team, Tampa Bay, scored only 19 points in their loss to Carolina. And fantasy bottom-feeder Graham Gano was second with 15 points even though his Washington squad also scored just 19 points. Meanwhile, a trio of upper-tier fantasy kickers – Jason Hanson, Sebastian Janikowski, and Robbie Gould – managed just three, two, and two fantasy points, respectively. It was a mostly upside-down week for fantasy owners in the kicking department, and one that many hope isn’t repeated as the fantasy playoffs begin. So let’s take a gander at our Fantasy Football Week 14 Kicker Rankings to see what is in store this week.

::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF DECEMBER 4, 2011::

Week 12 was a scoring bonanza for fantasy kickers, as all but five had at least six fantasy points. Eleven kickers were in double digits, led by Oakland’s Sebastian Janikowski, who had 23 points due to his six field goals, four of which were from beyond 40 yards. That helped vault Janikowski to sixth at the position in fantasy scoring, just 10 points behind leader David Akers. This week should breed similar results, with high-scoring affairs likely in several places.

Let’s take a look at how this week will shape up in our Fantasy Football Week 13 Kicker Rankings.

Standard Scoring

17-39 Yard Field Goal: 3 points |  40-49 Yard Field Goal: 4 points
50-plus Yard Field Goal: 5 points |  Extra Point: 1 point

::RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF NOVEMBER 26, 2011::

If you came away victorious this week in your fantasy league, it wasn’t due to anybody at the kicker position. Scoring was low across the board, as only two kickers registered double-digit fantasy points, with three putting up just a single point, and 12 kickers amassing five or fewer fantasy points. There have been better days for kickers, and it would be surprising if there weren’t far more points scored this week. Thanksgiving Day should see plenty of points, as five of the top seven kickers in fantasy scoring are in action, with four being in the top-10 of our rankings.

Especially intriguing should be the first match-up of the day, where our top-two fantasy kickers for the week in Mason Crosby and Jason Hanson square off. Let’s dive into it and see how the rest of our Fantasy Football Week 12 Kicker Rankings shake out.

Standard Scoring

17-39 Yard Field Goal: 3 points |  40-49 Yard Field Goal: 4 points
50-plus Yard Field Goal: 5 points |  Extra Point: 1 point
