2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet

Hello Bruno Boys Nation!

Anyone else in serious need of a mood stabilizer to get them through the day now that fantasy football and the NFL regular season is over?!?!

The thrill of winning the Su Pa Bo only lasts so long…

Right, let me backtrack.

MAMA WON HER FIRST SU PA BO!!!!

It seemed my win was imminent, despite poor team management. I had Darren Sproles on my bench with a day proving why I had originally drafted him. And I made two add/drops that were completely unnecessary and ILL ADVISED!!! Now I will learn to be loyal to my boys that took me through the season. I dropped Mason Crosby for Garrett Hartley at Kicker, and New York Jets D/ST for the Philadelphia Eagles D/ST - Bad Jordan! Luckily Donovan McNabb, Marion Barber, Jerome Harrison, and Sidney Rice all pulled their weight to win me the championship.  Sweet Sweet Victory!! And of course, I rocked it in all of the leagues where there was nothing on the line.

Mama’s in her first Su Pa Bo!

Historically, I power through the regular season and then choke the first week of playoffs. (Case in point: camp league) But, I made it to the big one this year in the SportsJudge league. Fingers Crossed for this weekend!

Missed you last week! Blame it on the holiday madness. So, I’ll catch everyone up on the past TWO weeks.

Week 13 Monday Morning Quarterbacking & Backpatting:

In week 13 I suffered pretty much across the board. I had losses in all of my leagues except for my camp league, in which I was already in 1st place and had clinched a playoff spot anyway…I pretty much kissed the playoffs good-bye for this year in all but one other league with those losses. Always choking when it counts, aren’t I? I did get 11 right in my pick ‘em leagues, so it wasn’t a total hex on my luck that week.

I should have played Darren Sproles over LeSean McCoy in one league and Marion Barber in another, but who knew the diminutive back would rack up a solid 13 points.

I, also, mixed up my Matts as I should have played Hasselbeck over Schaub, a move that would have netted me six fantasy points.

I certainly should have played San Francisco’s D/ST over Minnesota’s D/ST as Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals came out firing on all cylinders against the Vikings, (and incidentally were no contest for the 49ers the next week).

Now throughout the season you may have noticed that football provides for a perfect social Sunday. However, please don’t doubt that it also may provide for a perfect recovery Sunday. This week, it did just that. After a late night celebrating a dear friend’s 40th, fully equipped with Mattie’s Southern Kitchen catering, a homemade banana cream pie, a 20 person stretch hummer, and a Black Crowes concert at the Nokia theater, all mama wanted to do on Sunday was lay on the couch and watch football… and eat burgers.

Finally, a week where I killed it in most of my fantasy football leagues!  I won in all of them except one (and of course the loss was in the one where I’m fighting for playoff contention… but anyway…)

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams rocks my world, especially because now there’s a Dolphin with killer fantasy football value.

And look at Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Sidney Rice going north of 20 fantasy points for the second consecutive week.

Then everyone else just had steady good games - Tom Brady, Beanie Wells, Deangelo Williams, Matt Schaub, Greg Jennings, LT, MJD, and the Monday Night Johnson’s.

Well, it happened.  I officially am involved in too many fantasy football games for my own good.  Forget about the fact that I forgot to do my Pick ‘Ems for the week (I NEVER forget stuff like that), I got a message from a guy who claimed to be playing me in last week’s matchup and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out who he was because I forgot about that league (AND I keep an excel spreadsheet to keep track of them.) Needless to say I had half my roster on the New York Giants and Houston Texans bye week and gave my new Facebook friend a free win in the forgotten league.

I hit up some NYC sports bars this week for some NFL football.  Met some friends for the day games on Sunday and then watched the rest at home as I had lots of work to do.  I shot my first Girls Guide to the NBA interview at the New Jersey Nets practice on Monday, and the eastern time zone doesn’t always allow for an easy start to the work week.

For Monday Night Football I channeled my inner masochist and watched the game with the guy that just dumped me just to prove to myself that I’m a big enough person to be friends with him.  I am but that doesn’t soften the blow.

Well all of my fantasy football teams are officially mediocre.  How is that possible?!?! (Boys, don’t worry, you’re all studs to me!)

I was able to enjoy another relaxing football Sunday in Los Angeles while recovering from two consecutive nights of Widespread Panic at the Orpheum downtown.  (Side Note: 2nd row Balcony trumps 2nd row Orchestra by a long shot!)

I dragged my horse voiced self to a friend’s to warm up with some homemade chili and then made the rounds to another get together where I watched the the Sunday Night Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys game with my Philadelphia bred opponent in my No Homers League.  Beating me in our measly match-up served little consolation to him.  Especially as he, disgruntled, existed the room grumbling “Sorry to beat you, Jord,” and I retorted with out missing a beat, “That’s cool, I won the World Series.”

I had the pleasure of enjoying fantasy football Sunday on the beautiful grounds of Indio, CA’s Empire Polo Club for the Phish Halloween Festival 8. Warm desert air, sunsets shadowed by palm trees, a cover of the entire Rolling Stones Exile on Main St. set, and a big screen TV showing the Fox NFL games and the Word Series, were just a few honorable mentions that made this a monumental weekend.

Sunday was a largely successful day for me.  I was coming off the high of my best friends’ wedding, rocked my first fantasy basketball draft, tapped into my artistic side at fellow League Home Saucer, TeNeil’s, annual pumpkin carving party, and witnessed my dear New York Yankees make it to the World Series.  And then, of course, there was football!!! The best thing about playing in too many leagues is that you usually kick ass in at least one a week. I finally had high score in my No Homers League.

Well, the 100% chance forecast of rain for the Buffalo Bills - New York Jets match-up this past weekend fortunately was wrong. However, I did dress like I was hitting the slopes, while I hopped NJTransit to the Meadowlands with my friend and fellow fantasy player, Meredith Fine. Spacing on the “no umbrella” policy at Giants Stadium, I was forced to hide mine outside the gates.  I picked a low clearance car parked against the wall in the parking lot and chanced it. But alas, it was a casualty of the game as the car left before we did and someone snatched it up. The poor Jets were also a casualty of the game - pretty hard not to be when you throw 5 picks…

Speaking of which, I got to talk to WR David Clowney and QB Mark Sanchez on Monday night at a bowling fundraiser for The Clowney Foundation. The boys seemed to have a great sense of humor about the loss and are concentrating on redemption for next week.

The interview is up at http://girlsguidetofantasyfootball.com/2009/10/20/where-in-the-nfl-world-is-jordan-zucker-nyj-qb-mark-sanchez-and-wr-david-clowney/
