Week 17 brings an end to the NFL regular season, and also presents a challenge for fantasy football owners. With many teams having playoff spots clinched and possibly their exact playoff seed clinched as well, many of the top players on those teams that have helped owners reach this point may not play a whole game or may not even play at all depending on the situation.
On the other hand, there are opportunities for players to leave a positive impression when given an opportunity to play in this final week and fantasy owners that stay informed can find some of these players to be helpful in finishing strong and taking home a league title or a consolation bracket.
Quick Note: Not all players that had strong Week 13 outings are on this list, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t have value. If you have any questions about free agents not discussed in this article, head over to the forums and we’ll help you with the answers.

In case you haven’t heard there’s a game this week that features the two teams from New York - the Giants and the Jets - playing a game in a stadium in New Jersey. Much trash has already been talked on both sides but more of it is coming from the Jets. That’s not the only rivalry game this week with big playoff implications. The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers meet at Lambeau Field this week. The Packers are looking to rebound from their first loss of the season and the Bears are hoping to keep their playoff hopes alive. There are players from both of these matchups featured on the Week 16 Sit ‘Ems, it’s up to you continue reading and find out which ones.
QUARTERBACKS - SIT ‘EM
Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) vs. Cleveland
After some very inconsistent performances at the beginning of the season Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco got it together after the bye week in Week 5. Though he’s not scored more than 16 fantasy points in a game since he’s only scored less than 10 fantasy points in two of his last 10 games. That consistency has gone a long way for owners in deeper leagues or ones with previously poor quarterback situations. Don’t expect good results from Flacco this week against the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are the fourth-strongest defense against opposing quarterbacks, giving up just 10.3 fantasy points per game to them. Recall Week 13 when Flacco managed to throw for just 158 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions against the Browns. This game could see the Ravens take an early lead and pound the ball with running backs Ray Rice and Ricky Williams. Even in the deepest leagues Flacco is not an option this week.

Week 16 is “Super Bowl Week” in many fantasy football leagues, with bragging rights and maybe even a trophy on the line. In leagues that use Week 17, this is obviously semi-final week with a spot in the title game on the line. In either case, lineup decisions are now very critical and can definitely lead to a disappointing result if a bad choice is made due to an injury or just plain bad luck.
If you are fortunate enough to still be in contention for a championship in your league with the season winding down, here is the Week 16 edition of our “Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Start ‘Ems”.
QUARTERBACKS-START ‘EM
Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) @ New Orleans
Ryan threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15, with the only thing keeping him from more than that being he played just under three quarters in the decisive win for the Falcons. He had thrown for more than 250 yards in six straight games prior to that, and is a fair bet to start a new streak in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints have allowed 16.7 fantasy points per game (seventh-most in the league) to opposing quarterbacks this season, and Ryan himself threw for 351 yards with two touchdowns and one interception against them in Week 10. The game situation is likely to mandate a lot of passing for the Atlanta offense, so Ryan makes for a nice QB1 with upside for Week 16 and may help more than one fantasy owner take home a title with a big game.
