There are not many players we recommend benching for the Super Bowl. Following the conclusion of the 2012 fantasy football season,  it was time to set about on a quest to construct a system by which the year’s waiver wire additions could be compared objectively across positions. This system, which Bruno Boys Sean Morris created and dubbed the Waiver Value Index, is founded on the concept of determining the relative contribution of each player to the average owner’s fantasy success. The Index sets out to do this by valuing the performance and consistency of players during the weeks that the average owner was most likely to start them.

Through a relatively complex formula, the system gives each player waiver value on a scale from one to ten with the best pickup of the year scoring a ten. If you’d like to skip straight through to the waiver rankings feel free. If you’d like to read a more in-depth description of the system and my motivation behind designing it, check out the “Introduction” and “Inner Workings” sections.
