I’ve spoken at length before about how my favorite aspect of handicapping football is the incredible places it takes you. For this Sunday’s 2u POD, we travel to a personal favorite league of mine, Cyprus First Division.
The matchup we are targeting features first place Apollon visiting NEA Salamis. While it may not be that high on any FIFA rankings, there is a large amount of talent in this league. Just this game alone features multiple players who formerly played in Bundesliga, La Liga, and Ligue 1 in their careers. Also, Cypriot teams recorded multiple noteworthy results in this seasons UCL and Europa league qualifying.
This game really checks all my boxes for a great play. First place Apollon is scoring a crazy 2.5 GPG (goals per game) on the road this campaign. Salamis have a 1.6 xGA (expected goals allowed) which is highest in the league. This essentially means they concede the most quality chances in the league. However, Salamis can certainly find the net too, as they average 1.5 team GPG at home. Also of note, the L6 H2H matchups between the two have gone 5:6 over 2.5 goals. 5:6 has seen BTTS (both teams to score) and are averaging 3.8 Total GPG.
The weather conditions for the game will be clear and 55 degrees around kickoff. I think we are looking at a 3-1 final here.
Pick: Over 2.5 Goals (-133) | 2 units
The Daily Slate Overall Betting Record: 3-1 (+3.7u)
