The Broncos are going to find out quickly if Drew Lock is their answer at quarterback because he’ll have no excuses after this draft. Already added Jerry Jeudy in the first round, the Broncos selected Penn State receiver KJ Hamler with the 46th overall pick.
Denver has been offensively-starved over the last two seasons, but Hamler is a speedy slot receiver who is undersized but has top end speed to threaten deep. There’s a chance he makes an immediate impact in special teams as a returner.
The Broncos are stacked with Courtland Sutton, Jeudy, Phillip Lindsay, Noah Fant and Melvin Gordon. Hamler joins this group, which means the days of DaeSean Hamilton, Tim Patrick and Diontae Spencer are numbered. Does Hamler have value? We’ll see. He could factor in as the y-receiver/slot guy and immediately make it tough for defenders to double up on Sutton and/or Jeudy.
