Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers dismantling of the Saints was one of the hottest story lines in Week 1. Chris Godwin did his part, contributing 3 catches for 41 yards and a TD. Godwin is a player who has received a lot of praise in the fantasy community and has even been speculated to snatch the WR1 position away from Mike Evans in due time.

Rookie Scouting Portfolio expert, Matt Waldman, heaped praise on Godwin coming into this season and even predicted that Godwin could be a solid performer in the red zone this season. That came true already in Week 1 as Godwin’s TD came from just 9 yards out.

Godwin was expected to run as the WR2 this season ahead of DeSean Jackson, as both were listed as the teams WR2 on the official depth chart. Godwin out-snapped Jackson 70%-30% however as 4for4.com‘s John Paulsen noted on Twitter.

Godwin is only 35% owned on Yahoo leagues heading into Week 2 which seems a touch low. It may take a couple weeks of Godwin proving his value with more opportunities for him to truly catch on. Jackson will continue to get work and be a constant threat for a big game, but it looks like Godwin’s time is finally coming.
