Kenjon Barner, RB, New England Patriots
As we head into Week 8 of the NFL season, next man up will continue to be a growing trend. A prime candidate to benefit from that mentality this week is Patriots newly acquired running back, Kenjon Barner.
Barner was a staple on the Eagles bench over the last four seasons before a slew of injuries opened a new home for him with the Patriots mid-season. With Sony Michel dealing with a new injury and looking doubtful to play this week, Barner finds himself in a great position to prove his worth and audition for more touches on a regular basis. This is entirely possible as the Patriots have generally run a three back committee and probably would rather not run James White out there 20 times per game.
A matchup against the helpless Bills this week also gives Barner a boost as the Patriots are a heavy favorite and could look to run early and often to protect their lead and kill the clock. Barner is a streamable Flex play this week who offers RB2 upside if he can garner a role in the red zone. His long term outlook is foggy until we see if he can capitalize on this opportunity.
