Chris Herndon, TE, New York Jets
As streaming tight ends has become a popular strategy this season with the position being such a desolate wasteland, it’s time to think outside of the box.
Chris Herndon has quietly been a top-5 tight end over the last two weeks. A fourth round draft pick out of Miami, Herndon has become a favorite target of rookie Sam Darnold as the Jets have suffered a sudden rash of injuries. Herndon’s 7 targets last week were second on the team behind Robby Anderson (10) and Herndon’s 9 yards per target ranks third on the team this season behind Cannon (12.5) and Anderson (10.7).
The Jets have lost Terrelle Pryor, Quincy Enunwa and Bilal Powell recently and now Robby Anderson is also dealing with an ankle sprain. This leaves Jermaine Kearse as the team’s clear WR1 and could thrust Herndon into a more prominent role as the first or second look for Darnold.
The Jets face the Bears this week who have shut down opposing running games but have been vulnerable through the air. They have given up 4 TD’s to tight ends this season which firmly puts Herndon on the streaming radar once again. If you are struggling at the tight end position, Herndon is worth a look as he offers TE1 upside this week and has a pretty clear path to targets going forward.
