Melvin Gordon, Denver Broncos at New England Patriots

Coming off an explosive Week 4, Gordon is staring at a bad matchup against the Patriots. They’ve allowed just one running back to punch one in against them, Jordan Howard on a goal line carry. Chris Carson also scored on this defense by catching a pass, something he’s been doing more of this season, but not to be expected. What does this have to do with the Broncos’ feature back?

As a runner, Gordon will get the volume but the Patriots have yet to see a back get more than 17 carries. Gordon is averaging just under 3.0 catches per game and 11.25 receiving yards per game. The inexperience at quarterback is also a backdrop to every Broncos game moving forward and that directly affects Gordon’s day.

The Patriots managed to contain Carson and they didn’t allow Josh Jacobs or Clyde Edwards-Helaire to score. They might have taken some hits before training camp with players opting out, but the Patriots still know how to play defense. If Gordon is making waves in fantasy this week, he’ll put in some major work.
