Sammy Watkins WR, Kansas City Chiefs

Watkins didn’t quite do what he did in Week 1 last year (198 yards and three touchdowns), but he led the Chiefs in catches (seven), receiving yards (82) and targets (nine) with a touchdown in Week 1 against the Houston Texans. On the heels of the AFC title game and Super Bowl last year, when he totaled 12 catches for 212 yards on 16 targets, and Watkins is on a positive trend as a prominent target for Patrick Mahomes.

The matchup is not a cake walk in Week 2, as the Los Angeles Chargers have a tough secondary even without safety Derwin James. Looking further Watkins is faced with a tough matchup in Week 3 (Ravens), Week 4 (New England Patriots) and Week 6 (Buffalo Bills) as well.

Watkins is on the low-end WR3 radar in 12-team leagues next week, and until further notice even with touch matchups looming. Any piece of the Chiefs’ offense is worth a roster spot in fantasy football leagues, and Watkins has as much upside as anyone this side of Mahomes and Tyreek Hill. If you need WR depth, sang Watkins off your fantasy football waiver wire.
