Jared Goff, QB, Los Angeles Rams
Goff started well in Week 1 against the Cowboys, before the Rams protected a lead in the second half. Finishing without a touchdown pass is never ideal, however Goff looked sharp in the season opener and finished with 275 yards and no interceptions.
Goff may throw more than 31 times in Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles, in a matchup that looks good as long as he avoids throwing at Darius Slay regularly. Dwayne Haskins averaged over 10 yards per completion against Philadelphia in Week 1, with a shallower set of pass catchers than Goff has.
Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills will be tough, but Goff’s schedule gets softer in Week 4 (New York Giants) and Week 5 (Washington).
Goff should be owned in far more than a shade over two-thirds of Yahoo! leagues, and he’s somehow available in over half of ESPN leagues. He’s not going to be a sure-fire starter every week, with tough matchups scattered through his schedule, but don’t overlook the former No. 1 overall pick.
